This is more of a question than a problem. While testing a skirt in CAS today I was clicking through different tops and landed on a bodysuit that has a shiny specular at the bottom. The specular from the bodysuit showed through the skirt. I also tested EA tights/leggings, that also showed the specular through the skirt). So, I started clicking through other skirt/bottom projects I've done and noticed the ones that I have actually edited the specular maps didn't have the problem, but the ones that I clicked "make blank" for the specular did. Now my question: What does the "make blank" button actually do? Does it remove the specular completely? Actually make it blank? I tested four different specular options with the same skirt and the glitter tights (just to note the skirt packages were created with s4s wishes 3.1.0.1): 1. "make blank" button; preview white on both sides (grey skirt) 2. black layer/alpha & black mask; preview white on right/black on left (teal skirt) 3. black layer/alpha & alpha copy/pasted mask; preview white on right/black with white cut out on left (red skirt) 4. edited ea layer/black alpha (which is what the ea alpha was originally) & alpha copy/pasted mask; preview (pink skirt)

hi! I think you've explained it quite well. that's exactly what blank does. it un links the texture from the package, but by that it lets other speculars (from items the sim is wearing as well) step through. you should always edit and import your own texture to avoid this, specially the alpha one that limits the circumference of the specular.

Yeah, I just thought that when pressing "make blank" it would give results like test #2 xD

doesn't result 2 cause the tights to loose shine?

I went back to check if #2 caused the tights to loose the shine and it had a subtle shine, which seemed odd... I didn't realize that when I saved and closed s4s that the mask of the specular either reverted back to the original or was just doing something funky. Remaking the package fixed whatever issue that was and after double checking to make sure the specular was completely black on the layer, alpha, and mask (and checking the other skirt packages... just to make sure they were all correct). I get the same result for #2 in game as clicking "make blank" button so I'm guessing it really is creating a fully blank specular. I feel a little silly, but I guess I've learned that I need to at least copy over the resized alpha to the masked layer to import xD (and to also make sure it sticks after saving and closing lol)!
I updated the above picture for #2 with the correct representation.
