I know the basics of recoloring, so that explanation or thread recommendation can be skipped (:
I want to recolor this sweater from Romantic Garden. I have extracted the gray sweater texture and made it a white base. My recolor question is: how do I recolor the beige "shirt" and make the sweater another color without making the whole top one color? I use the latest version of GIMP.

I use Photoshop, but I would imagine the process is similar in Gimp. I'd use the "magic wand" or "quick select" tool on the beige portions of the image to select them all. Then cut/paste the selected portions into a new layer. You can then overlay a different color over that layer than you do on the rest of the sweater. (I hope I understood your question correctly )
