So I'm converting a model (Pillow Fluff, ottoman/chair) from City Living to a small and large dog bed. I exported the meshes, edit them and imported my own edited version of the mesh as a 'new' mesh. What do I have to tell people concerning the expansion requirements? As in: Do people only need Cats & Dogs expansion or also City Living because it's based on a model from that EP?

Hi! The person downloading your item will only require the EP that the object you cloned to do your package belongs to. You cloned a pet's bed, then it requires Cats & Dogs.

I personally think that it should require both since the mesh and texture are from City Living. However, the issue there is that you can only have one requirement. So in finality, I suggest making it require the City Living pack since the downloader can still use it as a non-pet related object.

brujah I was thinking also in the tuning of the bed and slots.. wouldn't that require that pack? Can you place objects with tunings from other EPs in a game that doesn't have them?

Yes and no. If you look at the tuning for doors there is a loooong list of _super_affordances. Several of them mention vampires and these doors still function without the vampire pack. Basically if the downloader doesn't have the pets pack these are just decorative cushions, the game completely ignores the references in the tuning to pets.

Oh! look at that, i would have guessed that it'd throw an error like footprints.

I could be completely wrong and it will throw an error. I don't have the pets pack so I can test it for you if you like.

So I did a considerable amount of testing with this. I can confirm that I was incorrect in my last statement saying it will be ignored. I cloned a CL object, export/import your resources into it and changed the tuning to match the pets, among other minor modifications. They all caused a script call fail. I did not do any tuning adjustments, as such I did not test that. There is a way that I can think of to FORCE it to require both, reference the textures from the original CL object (not the cloned version), unless you have edited them.

Thanks for testing it! I'm gonna keep it on just Cats & Dogs required for now, seems weird to me to add extra requirements when the game itself allows it like this.

As a slightly obsessive texture-referencer I would like to mention that if you export the diffuses, specs and normals from the cl cushion and add them to your look-alike pet bed, you do simmers, who actually own both expansions, a disservise by unnecessarily bloating their cc-folder with files they technically already have access to. For the cushions this might not seem much (slightly more than 500KB to presumably around 40) but if you take into consideration how much cc some simmers use, it adds up.

I can confirm that if a person without an EP/SP/GP that you link a unique tuning file from tries to use that object, then you will get a script call fail like what brujah experienced (I tried once with a candle tuning file before making one because I really prefer linking tuning since EA changes it often).
As for requirements, you really do have 2 requirements inbuilt, the limitation of the tuning for pets since people without it can't use the bed without the expansion, and the CL limitation for the object itself. If you can I would try and link the textures and state it is only functional with C+D and CL installed. If you edited the textures for the new mesh shape then texture linking isn't possible so probably use that new feature added to the modding menu to add the requirement.
It is a shame you can't specify both packs in the package coding though, because i really like using the pack icons on cc. I makes it easier to find visually and I think it looks better in the menu.
