Havem, while probably no one will say a word to you if you use Disney or Dreamworks and Pixar characters unless you sell them, it's still not permitted (by companies) to use famous characters as a part of your artwork. I think there is possibly a gray area if you use let's say Mickey Mouse and distribute that .package for free, I mean no shortners, no patreon, no TSR since they earn profit from people coming to their website. In this case it is more a fan art. Regarding memes, if it's not copirighted you are free to use it but if it gets copirighted you need to get a permission from original artist. Pretty much no one will haunt after you if you use someone's textures that didn't have watermark on it, but it would be much better to find a source where you can download pictures free for own and commercial use. One of the sites that I love is colourlovers where you can create your own seamless textures, color someone's pattern or find already colored patterns. Some users allow to use their textures in commercial projects, but there is no way to search for them on website. Here is one that I stumbled upon.

If you don't have the copyright in an image, changing it so it looks different doesn't relieve you from potential liability. You can't create a new work and call it yours if you don't own the underlying copyright. Adding a favorite quote or other text to an image doesn't negate the underlying copyright. Using one of the many photo editing software products to change the image to something that suits your particular use will not create a new copyright for you. Just Because Other People Do it Doesn't Make it Right.
