Feeling sad because the EA update has stopped CAS work :(

Sorry if this is repeating any previous thread, I have searched but can't find an exact answer.
I cloned a pair of female boots (Moskito boots 019) and edited the specular map in GIMP (RGBA) to the values R167 G90 B148 and A82 - to make them appear more shiny.
I imported the new specular with no problem and they appear as a thumbnail fine in the game. They look fine when equipped by a sim.
But...
When any sim wears them everything else becomes shiny too - all other clothes and the sim herself. I went and checked the matching mask.png file and all channels are black so I assumed that wouldn't effect CAS items in other areas.
What am I doing wrong? Any help much appreciated. (banging my head against the wall here!)

Did you edit the image file as PNG or DDS? I always use DDS for speculars and you have to make sure that it saves with an alpha channel. If you share your package and image we can take a closer look.

I edited as PNG and decomposed the image to RGBA in GIMP and then composed as RGBA back to a PNG. I read a few tutorials and they seemed to reckon .png was ok? Can it be troublesome? I can't seem to add any attachments :( Does this have to be enabled by an admin?

You will have to upload them to a file hosting site and share the links here. This forum doesn't host attachements.
Working in PNG format should be fine. I just prefer DDS as I can work with the transparency seperately to the main image which is easier to adjust later if needed. It's a personal preference. I just thought I should ask in case it does turn out to be a format issue.

Okay, so I've just looked at your package file and exported your specular texture to check it. I exported it as a DDS just because that is what I am used to and the mask is completely white. It even shows as white in Studio. I assume this will be why the shine is showing up over the entire Sim. It's difficult for me to check in game, since I don't have the original boots in my game they won't show up.
You may want to re-export the texture from your own package and take a look to see how it is saving.

Oh that's weird. When I had the specula map in GIMP it had RGB values of zero in all channels. Thanks for looking. I will go and do some further investigation.

hi! speculars and bump map should be handled in dds format, not png. so I suggest exporting it and keeping it like that or your alpha channels will get messed up.
