Hi everyone! I was doing the shadows of a suit using the game skin as an overlay (as I've already did on another one) and everything looks good in GIMP, but when I imported it into S4S the shadowing "collapsed" into weird spots (I don't know how to explain it in English). I've tried everything, I've changed the layers in GIMP, I've used Krita too, I've also used clothes shadows for testing, I've blurred the texture more, but the spots stay and they look even worse in game. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong since it's not the first time I use this method and it has always worked. Left column: diffuse texture png; center: imported in S4S; right: spots hilighted Do anyone has an idea of what is going on?

inabadromance the problem is this: On the left there's the texture I made, the shadows look smoothy and grey tones, when I import the texture in sims 4 studio they become blocky and "change color". On the right there's a picture taken in CAS, the shadows of the spine and shoulders are solid and dark green (not dark gray) and the surrounding area is dark purple while it should be gray (it's not CAS light because I have neutral one and I've also tested it in live mode and it doesn't change. It's not even the specular because with solid color works properly). They look like spots (like the ones that affected darker shades of the skintones added with the last patches). I never had this problem before with dark shades in my creations. With a lighter color the problem is not there (or at least is not that visible), but I need it to be darker than this.

So I've tried to convert the PNG to DDS using Paint.net. It's the first time I use DDS files but apparently the problem is "the number of shading colors", I don't know how to explain it in English but both S4S and DDS seem to apply a "poster effect" on the pic, reducing the number of grays and so the "shading effect" is not that smooth. At this point I wonder if it's a problem of "color maps"? I don't know how to call them and I know nothing in this field unfortunately.

There is pretty much nothing you can do. DDS is the only format game uses, and it's highly compressed format, so no matter what program you use you'll still end up with some sort of artifacts depends on compression algorithm used by program. Read my explanation here.

I see now! maybe on my phone the pictures aren't showing that clear to see. I was about to suggest you to change the shade but you've done it already. I would make it darker not by but until the issue appears.. just to know how darker you can get it.

Feyona thank you for the clarification! inabadromance in the end this is what I did, I darkened it a little and made the highlights less evident thank you again!

AleNikSimmer, you're welcome. In addition to that every time when you save in .dds then open, edit and re-save again it looses quality.

Hey I'm sorry to butt in but I am using a MBP and I don't have the option to open or save as a DDS file? To open or save as DDS you will need a DDS plugin for Photoshop or GIMP. For Photoshop, you can find it HEREFor GIMP, you can find it HERE
Paint.net already has DDS integrated Using PNG is also possible, for which you won't need any plugins
