There is a tutorial by Kitkat about making specular for objects in the forum. HERE is the link. blackgryffin The info you linked is very interesting and helps understand what the specular is in general, that's great. Bad news it that it won't work for TS4. As Inabadromance said, EA has it's own way for creating the specular, this is discussed in the tutorial I link here. About the metal looking things. It all depends in what you're trying to achieve, although metal is one of the most difficult task to do as a object creator for Sims. The specular effect for metal just doesn't look so good. You can try adjusting the channels to have a really high strength specular but it won't look realistic. Most artist will make the appearence of metal by baking the texture in the diffuse map. The shine in the metal won't be dynamic. (It won't move when you do move the angle of the camera or light) but it will most likely look better. You can check this if you download some objects and take a peak. Most of the metal effect is in the diffuse.

If you want @augold45 , you can use my personal specular. In the zip file you have 8 speculars. - 4x4 - 256x128 - 256x512 - 512x256 - 128x128 - 128x256 - 256x256 - 512x512 I tried using your 512x512 Specular for a Floor Tile and I still got no glassy, glossy reflective finish. I wish there was a straight tutorial of how to make your own DIffuse, Bump, Specular and Normal from a Texture using Gimp 2.10. I find it impossible to try and make sense of the intermediate tutorial on Specular found in the guides.

To make a specular map follow this guide - So, just make a 512x512 image, and you can make it just red or blue or white or anything just to test, and make sure the alpha layer is fully white. Then export as a .dds and import to studio.

Yes I saw that same information in a tutorial by kitkat. sims4studio.com/thread/1617/create-rgb-specular-objectsI'm trying to find a way to do that and make it work using Gimp 2.10.18 but of course I can't find help on that within the very particular context that is uniquely what's required for TS4 and the way it reads and interprets a specular map. Thank you though. I appreciate the response you've made

Been working on this all day and as I said there are no tutorials out there that I could find that share how to make a RGBA Specular with Gimp 2.10 But I have made progress on my own with trial and error on my own and trying various tricks to brighten/darken the RGBA channels and export as a DDS with BC3/DXT5 compression with mipmaps. To the end that I believe I have a working Specular Map now that was built from the original image at the same time as the Diffuse and Normal Maps. This is something of a Holy Grail moment because nobody has made this easy to discover and work out for myself. Now I'm confident enough to move on and take a closer look at the Normal Map and make sure my method is compatible with the method required for TS4.
