So I find the UV's to be quite small. I am using UV's of 1024 x 1024 pixels right now. Textures most times are a lot bigger then the faces in my UV's. I can shrink the images but eventually after shrinking to much an image will simply be too blurred. I can make the faces a bit bigger until no space is left but that won't be enough. I still have to shrink the image a lot. To give an example: I am making a fireplace and shrinked the big tile image until it has the size as seen in the faces. It's so small it will never look nice. How do you create good looking textures or UV's so you don't have this issue?

hi! that's the beauty of uv mapping. I can't see the full texture but you've got space there that's being unused. I would rearrange the uv to give your tile parts more space.

To add to what Inabadromance said, sometimes you need to prioritize your textures. In the case of the tiles, they are really detailed so you should give the UV of that part of the mesh more space (make it bigger). However, parts that are solid color or have little detail can lose quality and you won't notice it to much. The same as part that are hiden behind the wall or the floor.
You don't need to have all the parts of your uv at a proportional size if you're not applying the same texture to it. Also your UV has a LOT of empty black space, you need to make it fit inside the box but leaving the less space between you can (beware that the texture don't bleed into each other if they are too close).

Thank you Inabadromance and Mathcope! I did exactly that now. forgot to add one importing thing (the wood!) so am making that first and see how it will look with the new UV.

How do you create good looking textures or UV's so you don't have this issue? On textures, for when you re-color your item or any item, ALWAYS choose a pattern/image that is slightly bigger than what you need. It is better to go down in size then to go up. If you need something that is 256 X 256, don't use a size of 150 X 150. Parts of the image will start becoming pixelated. Use an image size of 300 X 300 or 350 X 350. You don't lose too much quality with those numbers (for the example size used). Also, sometimes when saving a finished textured in any 2D editor, if you did not bring the image back to 50% or 100% (from zooming in and out), quality is lost. Fiddling around in GIMP 2.8 has taught me a lot about this. If you already knew this, ignore the post.
