[Solved] image quality issues when creating custom posters

When in your process is the blurring introduced (when do you first notice it)?

That is the normal thing to happen. Images definition are bound to the number of pixeles you can use (most of the time). This images are built with pixeles and building block to compose the final result if you have 200 squares to display a picture there's no way that it can look the same as if you had +1000, it's a limitation that you cannot run from.

How to get around this limitation depends on your project, the detail you need to mantain, your mesh, the uv map as different factors that contribute to it. 200 pixeles is a very small size, why do you need to make it that small?. For Sims 4 1024x1024 gives you a good enough place to work without loosing to much quality, the bigger the texture is the bigger it will be for the game to load and therefore you will lose perfomance. That's why images don't go something crazy like +4096 pixeles if not needed.

I'm not following what you mean. Can you please share the images that you're having trouble. Maybe explain more in what you want to achieve?

What poster did you clone that has a such extremely big image? What image are you trying to replace it with? If this image is low quality you will never be able to make it fit a larger image without losing quality. You mentioned a 1000 x 1500 pix size, where does this come from? Why would you want to make a poster with only 200 px? Please be clear.

Hi! Any modification that you do to an image as far as resolution goes will cause an impact in quality. Increasing a LQ image into a bigger resolution is going to have a more noticeable impact than the other way around.

The correct texture resolution that you should import into your package must be multiple of 2. Example: 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024 or mixed like 256x512, 1024x256. To increase the quality of your poster i recommend importing a texture bigger than what you're currently working with. Either 512x512 or 1024x1024, but not larger than that. And i don't suggest using the biggest option if you're planing to add a lot of swatches or the package will end up very heavy, file size speaking.

As Math pointed out, 200 isn't a correct resolution so check the size you're working with or it will give you issues in game.

edit: i was writing this while you posted your other replies so hopefully you'll read this one next . You have to resize the current texture to make it bigger and then paste the poster you want.

Yep that is what I meant early, the texture space you have to paste your external image (the thor poster) is so little in comparison with the size of the image, that's why you loose quality. Is like trying to fit 1000 balls in a space that only fits 10 balls.

You don't have to import a 256x512 image if that looses to much quality only because the item you cloned had that size. If you feel that is necessary you can try using 512x1024. (Beware not to go so high with this numbers because it will have at long term hit in the perfomance). Now it would be like trying to fit 1000 balls in a place that 100 can fit, so you will have more that represent better the original image you resized. (to continue the analogy)...

This ? sign means that you imported a image texture that is wrong size. The sizes can only be in a base of 2. Either the width, the heigh or both need to be 64 or 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, and so on...

By swatch image do you mean swatch thumbnail image? In that case I don't see why that would happen if you didn't touch it.
