Since I started doing my own recolors every time I start up the game to move along my legacy I catch myself looking at all the objects in my sims home that I want to change and I just can't get into the "playing" mood, so I just log off and start planning the next recolor. For the last 2 weeks I have not played at all, so my poor things are stuck in there waiting for their lives to move ahead. 
Is this what people are refering to when they say they got the "doing my own CC bug"? If you're a creator, do you play often? Share your thoughts.

As a creator, I feel the same too. I enjoy creating CC rather than playing the game itself. Because the nature of Sims game as 3D sandbox tool to unleash creativity rather than "game". I bet lots of CC creators rather creating CC than playing the game itself.

I bet lots of CC creators rather creating CC than playing the game itself. Yes, I miss the tools from TS3, but was never able to make my own content for TS4 because I'm on a mac. Since the good people here were kind enough to port the studio for mac I decided that I would give it a try once I got some free time. Having a good time so far. |

I'm the same. I bought TS4 on release day and even after all this time, I still have the original couple I started with because I have played them so little. I do have aging turned on as well, though it is set to the longest setting.
I just find myself noticing something lacking or something I would rather have in a different colour, or something I would like to behave in a slightly different way and so I spend most of my time making said content. The sad part though is that because I spend more time making content than playing the game, I don't get to use the new content I made either.

I only played the basic and new features from newest Expansion Packs only for short time, then I went to "creating CC mode" again. I use my Sim's house for taking photoshoot of my CC on SV white Backdrop.

In Sims 2 I occasionally played the game but mostly designed homes and made recolors and some meshes for my houses. In Sims 3, I switched to making recolors and meshes and helping others make things for the game with only rare gameplay. This time around, I'm mostly facilitating the creation of content by others, and I never play. I guess I've moved from player --> addict --> enabler |

I have become fed up with the Sims 4 completely for this reason too. Modding the game and CAS was addictive, but in terms of gameplay there's so little you can really do with the customisation that's actually engaging. The constant updates are annoying as well, because it leads to mods being incompatible and crashing the game. The mods generally do get fixed, but will only last for another 1-3 weeks until EA decide to patch the game again. Sims 4 also broke my style of gameplay and progression for years. It's only been recently that I returned to Sims 3, which made me feel at home again, something that TS4 wasn't able to do.
Hope this thread isn't inactive for too long, I just saw the OP and felt I could relate.

Bugattiman253mph ... wow.. you know, you're totally right. "feeling at home" with sims 3, i can see that. My last save had 18 generations and... never got bored of it. funny XD Progression was really nice... moving out family and them living their own life..

I agree with you, Bugattiman253mph. The game breaking in places everytime there's a new pack, plus the mods breaking from it, all of this has put me in a place where I delay getting new stuff. TS3 wins in my book for immersion and so many possibilities. TS4 looks beautifil IMO, but I only play in bursts: login, play for 2/3 hours for 1/2 days and then don't open the game for another month (or 3). Since I decided to take on the task of doing recolors the fun and challenge of if has kept me pretty much entertained as I have not felt the desire to play. Seasons looks beautiful and I love seeing the pics people post on tumblr, but honestly, played maybe for 1 hour since I got it. |

I'm currently playing the Seasons expansion on TS3 now and the change in scenery is incredible! particularly in Winter, with buildups of snow and frost on everything. I wasn't ever fond of TS4's return to cartoon graphics, since it seems like modders prefer to make clothing with realistic textures, which don't look quite right in the disney-esque cartoon environment. I always thought that creators on TSR were trying to imitate the textures of Second Life, lol.
I kinda had a similar gameplay habit, where I make a couple household, play for 1-3 sim days, close the game down for the night, wake up the next day then delete the save and start over! For me there just isn't anything to lose anymore, since it doesn't take much effort to get to the top of the game anyways.
Back in TS3, I've got to try lots of things that I never did before; charisma, investments, performing concerts in the stadium as a rockstar and generally reading up tips on how to use certain features. I wished I had known about these features years ago so that I could have utilized them more. And even if my sims get fed up of being loaded, I have plenty of Fresh Prince's expensive cars to spend the family funds on, lol.

I used to be the kind of person that looks for all kind of CC by other people, and only if there was nothing similar to what I was looking for then I did it myself (or attempted to). I was the lazy cc creator type lmao At that time I could spend like 2/3 hours looking for CC, spend a few days playing and back to look for new CC before play again and deleting the ones I never used (or updating my Mods folder if there was a new patch). I didn't really care the mix of styles- As in some were alpha and some maxis match.
However, recently I deleted all my CC keeping only mods that are constantly updated or that will not break in long time because I got tired of loving a mod, be used to it, having it broken because an EA patch and then being unable to use it again because the orignal author vanished and no one has time to keep updated mods by other people.
Now, I may spend like 1/2 hours playing my Poor to Rich challenge save before spend the rest of my free time creating my own CC. That, unless I don't play at all and just spend my time creating. I love the cartoonish style that The Sims 4 have, so atleast now I make sure that all my CC is the same style like the rest of the game.

One of the things that makes it a bit hard when trying to play TS3 nowdays is the way it looks. As a Second Life player (and former creator there), TS3 looks like SL circa 2005 IMO.
If there was a way of making TS3 look like TS4 I would stick to TS3. Love the quirks and possibilities and how sims seemed to have a mind of their own no matter how much I tried "forcing" them into doing something.

 I actually prefer the look of the graphics before the game was released, it looks almost like it came after TS2, particularly the CAS UI, which used to be vibrant and blue, and the clothes thumbnails were at a different angle facing more to the left, which I thought was really awesome. When I saw all of the early CAS footage demonstrating the click and drag system, I was pretty excited about the game, thinking that it would have the same features as TS3. When the game released, they seemed to have tweaked the graphics again, presumably advanced shaders, I don't really like how it looks now, because it takes away from the TS2 esque graphics. I even thought TS4 was going to be almost identical to TS3 only simpler and more vibrant. But even the final game didn't look all that much like the teaser.

I go in spurts. Sometimes I play sims for awhile and then do a whole bunch of simple mods and then forget about the game for a couple of months before another expansion pack comes by and I get a slightly renewed interest (even though I usually don't end up buying the expansion/game/stuff pack).
I would absolutely play sims 3 but my lil laptop can really only handle sims 4 and sims medieval. I like Sims 4 but it pales in comparison to it's predecessors.

We must keep in mind that EA gave us what the majority of the community asked for; a playable game. I thought the same, tho, that we would get a better optimized (and better graphics) version of TS3 so I was kinda disapointed at first. However, I feel that the community did better when it comes to mods/scripts. Maybe it's because of the "doing my own CC bug", but I see way more original mods unlike with previews games (that, of course, is my opinion). Not to mention, that 60% of the community was unable to play the TS3 without horrible lag/saves corrupting every now and then. Me included, and I even tried it on a better computer before give up and sell it. While it's true that EA could have done better job with their game, atleast this time we can have a more personal experience with all the mods we have to chose (trying to give modders some credit for their hard work)... If we ever decide to play instead of create lmao P.S: Teasers always look way better than the final product so the change on Ts4 didn't surprise me xD |
