Hey there, So I've been spending a lot of time reading... reading and more reading on how to make things for Sims4. There are a lot of differences from Sims2! One thing I noticed is the resolution of images exported from S4S... come out as 96 dpi, even when I imported the image as 72 dpi. I looked at several tutorials, and they mention the pixel measurements of images but not the resolution.
Should I be drawing/importing the textures at 96 dpi? I thought 72 dpi was the norm.
The image does get "physically" smaller (if you were to print it out) so maybe it doesn't matter either way. But I wanted to ask!

Try to resize the image to 512 x 512 pixel

Right... I think I will. I was following EA's size for a table plant but its less complicated. So I'm going to make the image a bit bigger, longer at least so parts can be more detailed.
Still wondering about 72dpi vs. 96dpi though...
Also... some tutorials talk about .dds files and others talk about .png. Are either one ok to use? Or is .dds the preferred option for image files?

hi! I personally have never read anyone discussing about dpi. if S4S is re editing it like that then maybe that's what EA supports.
you can use whatever type, sometimes png has less bleeding other times dds. either way, S4S converts the final images into dds since that's what EA reads. they've added the option to work with png simply because some people find dds complicated or they simply aren't used to working with alpha channels.

Yeah I do a lot of artwork for prints so I'm a bit obsessive about DPI... lol! I'm going to assume it doesn't matter as long as the image ratios are correct. I've never worked with .dds files... I'm thinking I may need to for the specular/bump maps. As soon as I figure out how those work. Don't know why EA had to make those so difficult! I also dabble in making things for Cities:Skylines and the normals and speculars are pretty simple to make for that game. Oh well... I like learning new things!

You can try to export the Textures as JPG files. Eventually this helps

Yeah I'm figuring out what the red vs. blue vs. green does. I read a couple tutorials, but until I do it myself its all theory. I made this planter mostly green thinking it would be shiny, but its too metallic. I'm going to make blue more prominent and see if that helps. I want it to be like porcelain...

OMG that is freaking amazing!!! You are right about the blue...it is blending into the black. you can see it but it isn't obvious, but I LOVE IT! Did you paint the whole thing by hand? Did you use photoshop?

Thanks! Yeah I did paint the diffuse image in Photoshop... I do use patterns and textures sometimes, but I try to "hand draw" as much as I can.

Holy moly!. I hope you have a tutorial some where. I would love to know how you do you art by hand. Such patience and steadiness. I use GIMP because I can't afford photoshop and I already used the trial, but good grief....I am just amazed and stunned.
