Hi
I noticed that some clothes meshes have a lot a doubles.
Is there a reason ?
Can we safely remove those doubles in blender without any consequence ?

Hey, yes, they do! I noticed this early on too.
Usually these vertices are split to create a hard edge, plus perhaps some other reasons I'm unaware of. I've noticed even if I export one of my meshes from S4S that did not have split edges that they appear. I always remove doubles and then If I need to, I split edges where I want a hard edge. Otherwise it's just more vertices to select.
Here's a tip for Blender: On a smooth mesh (or one you've removed doubles on), where you want to create some hard edges - Add the 'Edge Split' modifier and 'Mark Sharp' (ctrl + E) all the edges you want split/hard-looking, then you can see the effect but only apply it at the end. This way you don't have to deal with tediously selecting the double vertices while working on the mesh!

It is perfectly safe to use the Remove Doubles option in blender. It just means that unless you mark out hard edges, like missdelarocha explains above, the entire mesh will look rounded and smooth.
