Occasionally, and it's usually furniture or wall decos but I imagine it can be anything, the first couple of swatches seem to be bugged. I don't necessarily need all the swatches from the default item, so I'll start on the left and delete first couple, and then it's just all messed up. This problem doesn't affect everything. There's a base game chair like that, and a few other things.
Usually what I do to work around it is take right-most swatch and copy it several times, and then delete the first couple, and that seems to "fix" the problem where the normal texture won't export nor render in the preview pane.
Anyone know precisely what causes that?

I had a similar problem that I discussed over here not entirely sure if this was the same issue you are having now, but it would be worth a look at the community's replies to my issue I needed help with and in the end solved. The problem was that I needed to add the CC objects to the directory. I instead was just clicking "My Projects" and then opening the object and editing from there. You have to add it so that you can go into CC when choosing an item in "Standalone Recolor" and select said CC item. If you read through this topic of mine there is a lot of helpful info given by community members who had answered my question and then helped me fix the issue. Good luck. |

Hi xordevoreaux, can you provide an example item (the package) that has the problem you're describing? Also, when you say there's a base game chair and a few other items like this, do you mean that each and every time you use one of these items as your clone the problem occurs? If so, can you give me the names of a few of these items that reliably lead to the issue?

Couldn't find the chair offhand, but it's one with a ton of swatches, but the problem does resurface with what I call the "genhelm" poster paintWall_EP02GENpostersDJHelm1x1x2 1. Create a standalone recolor 2. Hit Add swatch 3. Select the first swatch 4. Hit Remove swatch 5. Hit Add swatch again Both swatches now have no preview and the import button is disabled. I'll try to find the chair.
Edit: I'm using 3.1.2.1 on a PC but this problem has existed a long time so I figured people figured out how to handle this a long time ago rather than being a new problem to report.

Hi xordevoreaux. I shared this technique with BrazenLotus sometime ago - the issue is a 'thing' with, as you said, many various objects throughout the catalogue. My go-to technique is: Add a swatch from the first swatch, then add (at least) two more copies of the newly added swatch. One can tell if it has worked when going back to the first swatch, deleting it, then checking the last swatch created to see if the texture is there/able to be imported/modified. While it may sound tedious, it really isn't that much extra work, and the newly cloned .package doesn't really seem to notice nor care about the addition of the extra, unnecessary swatches. There are some times when it appears as if it didn't work, as after deleting all of the unwanted swatches, the remaining swatch can display a messed-up texture. All expected, to me. The key is that it is still able to have the texture changed, so I then re-import the wanted texture, and everything goes back to what I expect. I hope that all isn't very confusing. tl;dr - make a copy of the first swatch, then at least two more copies of the copied swatch, then delete all of the original swatches, as well as all but the very last copied swatch. That's the technique that I used as described in the 2nd sentence of my original post in the thread, just diddle with other swatches until far away enough from the buggy one to be in a safe position to delete it. Hopefully orangemittens can isolate how to keep this from being necessary. I totally put the problem on EA, they put out buggy content, but I'm sure there's a way for Sims4Studio to get sly and work around it without entailing more work on the user end.  |

Found it!
Arrrmed Living Chair sitLivingQA_02
1. Create standalone recolor.
2. Delete swatch #4
3. Select swatch #1
Swatch 1 now has no preview and the import button is disabled.
Start over, delete swatch #5, now swatch #2 is messed up.
Start over, delete swatch #34 (the last one) and everything is fine.
One (or more) of the first 10 swatches is somehow bugged on that chair.

Hi xordevoreaux, I think the two example items you have discussed are illustrating two different problems. The poster requires a bit more investigation to see what's going on with that (it appears to be an issue with Studio's handling of this item - the poster's setup is confusing Studio). The chair, on the other hand, is pretty straightforward. Swatch 1 and swatch 4 share the same texture image (same prototype ID). When you delete swatch 4, it is deleting the texture for swatch 1 without removing all the other parts of swatch 1. I'm not sure why the item is made this way, but we'll look into seeing what Studio can do otherwise to avoid this confusing situation.
Hi minimonster, from your description of your workaround, it sounds as if you may be encountering items like the Arrrmed Living Chair, although I cannot be certain. What other items have you noticed that display this kind of problem? If possible, it's preferable to deal with these kinds of problems from the Studio side rather than having people slog through workarounds or give up in frustration.

Hi orangemittens. As I wrote above, I have encountered it with many, disparate items from the B/B catalogue. Not all items behave in such a way, and it is most prevalent (to me) when using a cloned BG item to make custom mesh. Unfortunately, I cannot give any specific examples, other than it seems to be absolutely necessary when cloning an item that has one texture shared across all swatches (thinking of a shared glass texture). As for myself, I never really mind it when I come across the need to use my methodology... If after changing a texture, I notice that any other swatches then lose their ability to be re-textured, I simply go back to the Main Screen, then re-open the file and use said method to continue. Not a big deal to me at all. While I cannot state with certainty, it may be an issue with objects that call upon a specific texture for their alpha, as I have a vague recollection of it being necessary with most plants/trees. I responded to this thread as I felt that I could contribute something from my own experience, and certainly did not mean nor intend to cause any confusion or frustration. BrazenLotus seemed to be genuinely Happy to hear of my method for her uses, so I was hoping to spread some Joy. I apologize for 'muddying the waters', per se, of this thread. |

Hi minimonster, I was not trying to suggest that you are muddying the water or causing confusion/frustration, and I hope you did not take my post to you that way. I am just trying to get a handle on the various issues being discussed in this thread so that, if possible, Studio can be updated to streamline the process of working with items that currently require the creator to perform special steps. Your answers here are helpful.
The frustration I mentioned above is the frustration that I can imagine occurs when a new creator tries to make a recolor for the first time and has the bad luck of picking an item like the Arrrmed Living Chair and the even greater bad luck of deleting the fourth swatch as their first step. For that person, the result would be inexplicable and could cause them to assume they just cannot "get it" and give up. Our goal is to, as much as possible, make it so people don't run into that feeling when using Studio. It isn't straightforward because there are so many items in the object catalog, and there is no single package structure among them. When Studio encounters an item that doesn't fit a pattern it knows about, unexpected results can occur until the tool is updated to accommodate the difference(s).

Hi orangemittens . Thank You for that thoughtful response! TBH, I never really even considered it a fault of Studio's. I simply had assumed it to be an issue with the whole .package format, and the S4 version being a relative clone of the S3 version, carrying with it any wonkiness along with it due to somewhat 'sloppy' or 'lazy' coding on the part of the official S4 Team. Somewhat along that note, it has truly been both a Joy and a Pleasure to have been using S4Studio all this time, and my genuine Marvel at having such a tool that not only allows us to easily create whatever our dreams can come up with, as well as having the regular feature additions added for our ease-of-use. I am not sure of how many people are aware how unique a tool it is to have to be able to mod a game - there simply isn't ANY other tool that even comes close out there in the gaming world! And completely Free, at that! Your and andrew 's dedication certainly does not go unappreciated on my end, so Thank You both! Cheers! |

I must echo what minimonster said, I absolutely love Sims4Studio. I tried that app that you can download on The Sims Resource but it wasn't nearly as friendly. You've done an excellent job making S4S very user-friendly, kudos. |

Was curious whether this was going to find its way into the program's development path or should I just put fixed versions of the broken items in my sims 4 studio mod folder as a baseline to make copies.
