I must be pretty useless, but I couldn't seem to find anywhere logical to make this enquiry . . so hopefully some kind Moderator will shuffle me off to where this should live.
I have been creating some simple rug recolours using base game EA meshes and have done okay so far, using the 'one piece' meshes . . but I can't get my head around the mesh that shows up in the Studio, as 1/4 of the finished object.
No matter how I went about it, my rug was not coherent . . it just had repeats of the pattern that didn't 'jell' into a whole design. What is the secret to using that 1/4 pattern, so that the finished rug looks correct?
I am not a 'mesher', which is why I am only interested in recolours.
Can some generous member give me a push in the right direction here, please? and thank you if you can! marcorse

Hi! Some rugs are mapped (this tells how the mesh will read the texture) overlapped to save space. EA sometimes does this with patterns that repeat. I suggest you look for another rug that has a design that doesn't repeat and use that as a base. You can then use that, or resize it in blender following this beginner guide: sims4studio.com/thread/1514/resize-rotate-painting-absolute-beginners. In summary, you can't fix this by recoloring. You need to get into blender and fix the mesh itself.

The Indispensable rug from the base game is a good base if you do not want a repeating pattern:

Thanks inabadromance and orangemittens . . . I have saved the tutorial and will try it when time permits. . . Your second piece of advice is sound, however it is smaller than I wish to go . . so looks like the tutorial [for a resize] might get a workout sooner rather than later. In the meantime, I'll continue to use the 2 larger meshes that I have found to work, and come back to the problematic one a bit down the track, once I have digested the tute. Thanks again for such comprehensive and speedy response. Marg.
