My game has been crashing for a while. It used to be every now and then but now it has increased more often to every 5min. It is probably problem package files that I have downloaded. I have hundreds so putting them back in one by one would take forever. I found that there is a program created for Sims 3 to find problem files. Does anyone know way to find problem files for Sims 4?

there's no program that does this out yet from what I remember so yeah you're gonna have to try a method of identifying the problem CC yourself.
The most common way to do this is the 50/50 method. You take your downloads, move to a folder on the desk top and split them in half. Put half A in your game and run. If you get no crashes, you move to Half B. If you do get crashes you take half of that half and test with it and keep weeding down until you've gotten the problem file.
There's some issues with this method because it doesn't cover incompatible mods and such, but it's a tried and true, though very tedious method.
Also it does help to clean the Caches once in a while as those can become bad and cause game issues.
:ModAlertMod Note: Moving into Sims 4 chat rather than General chat as this is game relative :ModAlert

Stat with script mods and mesh mods, new hair ect, some new hair meshes have been known to crash the game. If it is a mesh try this out, Ive never used it so I dont know how good it is at fixing things. modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=540034

°Update on Bad Files: I pulled an, "All Nighter", with Coffee and a Beer; and Tested Sims 4 under a Heavy Load. When I say, "Heavy Load" - Playing while Online and 3 Virus/Malware Progs running @ same time in Task Mgr. - with a 4GB Ram machine.
First, I pulled the Hack Files - More Time Hack/Teen Hack etc. Then, I pulled the Skins CC Then, the Clothing CC
You know that Old saying, "It's always the LAST place you look"....
Hair Files.
I only had 4 CC Hair Files. I pulled them, and the game runs as smooth as silk, now. I find that mind-boggling, must be a Poly/Anima Issue.
And to All a Good Night/Morning! ;°'

I didn't even have problems with most of my stuff until after the GTW patch, and even then it was only a cluster of about 10 newsea hairs rather than the 2 mods I use currently (those were the first things I removed, and for good measure I even tried with only those mods). When that went down I couldn't even load the game past the logo before I'd get "Sims 4 has stopped working" yadda yada... matter of fact, most "bad" cc I've had just caused me to not be able to load the game rather than crash while playing. The rest of the time there may be some stuttering but no major crashes

while the "50/50" method works for finding game-crashing custom content, and it's worked for me many times, I'm having a new problem all together.
At first, the sims wouldn't get married or water the plants. It started with the little bubble saying that there was something in the way, even though there wasn't one. Once I got them as close as possible to the plant, they would just do the 'debug' pose thing for a fraction of a second - you know, where they freeze and hold their arms straight out, looking like a cross? - and then continue on with whatever they were originally going to do. The plants would never get watered, the sims would never get married.
Now, it's gotten worse?
After I create a family in CAS, and I buy a house, the family doesn't show up at all. It looks like it's permanently stuck in build/buy mode, where the sims aren't available to click on in the lower left hand corner. It's just blank; I can still move the mouse and shift the perspective of the house, but it's as if I had never made a family in the first place. (I don't quite know how to explain that, so hopefully what I said gave a general idea.)
On top of this, when I tried to save the game and try restarting the game/computer to see if it would help at all, I get the error message along the lines of "sims 4 has stopped working, you can wait for it to respond or close the game."
I tried going back to an old save, but when I clicked on a household to play (in all three worlds) it would just zoom in slightly on the menu to the right of whatever household I tried selecting, and freeze. I can still open all of the menus and go back and forth between worlds, but the sims in the household won't show up. It just says the name and the name of the house itself, and nothing else.
As far as what I've tested, everything else seems to work fine with no errors.

Weird game issues can be caused by outdated mods. I had a problem with gardening a while back, and it turned out I needed to update a gardening mod after the game was patched. There was another one causing problems, but I can't remember what it was right now. Anyway, what I do is keep this sort of mods in a separate sub-folder from all my furniture, clothes and other objects, because these are most likely to cause problems with future patches.

I have a slightly different problem with 2 bad custom content files. When I'm in CAS, there are 2 files that I have installed (one is a pair of jeans, and one is a blouse) where they turn the Sim either completely black or turn half of the Sim's skin black and make their eyes red. It's frightening, tbh. (Is this a prank some CC creators play, or is it a freaky glitch?) Normally I would be able to see this in the preview picture and just know not to click on it, but almost all of the custom content now defaults to a picture of the alien outfit so I have to click on everything to see what it is. Anyway, I don't know how to figure out which files these are in order to delete from my Mods folder. Does anyone have a way to do this besides the previously mentioned 50/50? I'll probably end up trying that, but I figured I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else got this issue with their custom content and maybe just knew which files they were.

Hi flutter2deceive, if all the CAS catalog thumbnails are defaulting to an alien outfit for you then you need to patch your game. That was caused by an EA bug when they patched for Get To Work but it's been fixed now through another patch. Even if you don't have the Get To Work expansion you will be much better off if you patch your game

Speaking of bad CC, since Zerbu hasn't been around to update his CC tracker (SADDDD), I've been having a lot of issues with hair lately. A bunch of mine just show up as bald heads, or heads with weird colored hairlines and shadows. (I'm assuming it's because of a mesh issue, but it happens to some that I know for a fact I have the mesh for). I've tried to rig my way into getting the tracker to work, but when it does it doesn't show the hair. Ever. Has anyone found a good way to fix this or pinpoint the problem hairs? (50/50 method won't work because then you might end up pulling something out that another hair is referencing for a mesh or something.)

^ thats kinda true i tried doing the fifty/fifty method with my hairs and i ended up causeing more problems than i was fixing because hairs I KNEW worked fine were now showing up bald or blacked out or other weird issues cause i had taken the mesh away or something i guess, i got a handful of hairs mostly for the girls but one hair for the guys that just show up bald, and it drives me nuts cause I just feel its a possible potential crash issue in the future just sitting there, i got a couple dress files that do this as well and shifting through 6000 files for 6 hairs and two dresses is just a migraine waiting to happen, i know I have to do it but doing it and dreading it is two different things :P I really hope a mod or program to find these troublesome issues will be available soon, but its not like im not used to having to do it the hardway, i had to do it the hard way with sims 2 all the time . * sighs for 20 years *

I had a problem before from creators not marking clearly if their content was for ts3 or ts4. You can quickly locate these files by using " The Sims 4 Mod Manager " (google it as i have it typed). In the mods list it will say "Package[TS4]" next to each file for The Sims 4 packages and it will say "Package [TS3] for the files that you may have mistakenly placed. You can then quickly locate these by name in your "Mods" folder and remove them. Still though I am sorry I have not yet found anything that will detect TS4 Mods that are corrupt or out of date. I hope this helps though for you or anyone else that may have problems with files.

Sakura's program from mod the sims is wonderful for finding bad content, but be aware that it will give some false TS3 identifications. I have found that some files from The Sims Resource, like files from Nmbrswoman, Mutske, kaelan, and a couple of others show up as TS3 files, but they are TS4 and they do work. So far, I have not had this happen with any other custom content sites. I messaged the creator, but I am not sure that my message was understood, so I don't know if this will be fixed. Perhaps this is the difference between those who use TSR workshop and S4Studio.
