For those of you who aren't aware, EA recently released this trailer for their latest TS4 expansion by the name of Island Living!
I'm looking forward to finally having a mohawk in the game that won't look like butts, since I used to have one and all... but of course that's not the only thing!
I also love the idea of beach cleanups. It's awesome to see EA furthering their desire to appear more eco-friendly (whether they actually are or not, I have no idea) and spread the message of responsible practice when visiting places of natural beauty. The last thing anybody wants when visiting the beach is a heaving pile of rubbish left by tourists or otherwise washed up.
So, what does everyone think about the new features in this latest instalment?

At first, I was a little disappointed since a magic-themed game pack was supposed to be announced for so long but this came first. Of course, I know one was announced for this fall, so I'm over it now.
That being said, this pack looks really good. I'm excited about the active volcano and mermaids. When mermaids were announced, I secretly was hoping they wouldn't be just Disney-esque pretty mermaids and have a bit more a traditional luring-men-to-sea-to-let-them-drown aspect to them. And my wish was granted! In some gameplay footage I saw, you can make evil mermaids that can potentially kill sims, summon storms and sing siren lullabies.
Beyond that, I am excited for just general beach gameplay because it's always fun to have some beach fun. I'm more excited for EA to extend open-oceans (and hopefully lakes, too) into all the worlds at some point.
Also, the beach-cleaning and the mohawk are pretty good additions, as well.

I got to play this EP for 15 minutes at EA Play on Saturday. Will say that island looks really beautiful, although it was difficult to see what was going on on the screens due to a bad glare... They had much nicer booth last year, bigger, better location and better tent. But it was nice to see developers being excited about the pack. I could feel that they poured their soul into it. The only thing that disappointed me is that diving was a rabbit hole. There are still plenty things to do except diving, but it was probably the most anticipated feature.
P.s. Couple years ago I twitted CM on twitter suggesting reducing their packaging for offline shops. The way they were selling it was a huge box with one paper and the code inside. So once you enter that code you can throw away that plastic box. They could esily release just scratch off cards that would create less waste than a huge plastic box that is made out of non-recyclable material. They told that they will look into it, but I never checked if they changed their format.

At first, I was a little disappointed since a magic-themed game pack was supposed to be announced for so long but this came first. Of course, I know one was announced for this fall, so I'm over it now. Fingers crossed we do actually get a pack before TS5 rolls around. We've been here for a while, now, so it wouldn't surprise me if an entirely new game is in the pipeline. That said, the devs do have a tendency to continue releasing things for the previous series right up until release of their latest. Disney-esque pretty anything tends to rub me up the wrong way. I love seeing a dark side to things and all too often these aspects get ignored in games, movies, TV and the like unless the content is exclusively for adults. It'll be a lot of (very, very mean) fun to make some evil mermaids. Maybe they're the ones partying and leaving stuff all over the beach? For themselves to be injured by... because that makes a bunch of sense.I got to play this EP for 15 minutes at EA Play on Saturday. They told that they will look into it, but I never checked if they changed their format. Stoked (and heckin' jelly) that you got to play the EP! I'm sure the devs are annoyed at some features not being up to par, but it's possibly the higher-ups deciding that they needed to be completed with deadlines in mind, or that more attention needed to be paid elsewhere. From experience, implementing other peoples' creative visions when you have ideas that could improve them is frustrating when your job is only to make what you're told to. Sometimes they listen to what you have to say, sometimes not. Hopefully their team allows for creative throw-around and everybody gets a chance to pitch in. I also used to work at a GAME store in my local area some years ago, and TS4 download codes came on cardboard packaging with scratch-off panels. I'm not entirely sure it's down to EA as much as it is individual chains. Either way, fingers crossed! It would certainly be furthering the eco-friendly message of the EP.

AN UPDATE: Below is a video from the English Simmer, who was sent off to sunny LA on behalf of EA Games. The video shows off new features and gameplay relating to the upcoming expansion. It's also worth noting that with the upcoming patch, there'll be a lot of additional updates to those without the expansion!
It would seem that there are lots of ways to customise Mermaid Sims, kind of similarly to Vampires and Aliens. Should prove to be very interesting!

The pack is finally out! I think I'm going to wait until it goes on sale or something (I also entered a couple of giveaways, so, hey, I might get lucky), but from all the videos and screenshots I've seen of the pack, it really looks gorgeous! Even if the official cover render looks horrifying, I'm glad a lot more effort was put into this pack opposed to some previous lacking EPs.
Of course, I haven't obviously played it, so it could be poo for all I know. I can't wait to see all the reviews of it coming soon.
