I am new to recolor and using Gimp 2.1 and having issues with the image stretching and distorting on the model. The image is cleaned up but it looks like the model stretches the off white color past the black border and I have issues with making the circle a circle on the model. First image shows the distortion, second is the stretching of the circle the third is what it looks like in gimp. I am not sure how to work with this. Any ideas? imgur.com/a/aIi9cwXhere's the package file if you are interested in looking further drive.google.com/file/d/1-o7bfj8T72z4XlusriLbMFXDmx32vfKE/view?usp=sharing

The little blocky sections of colour around the unicorn's legs are a result of texture compression when converting the file to DDS format. It is unfortunatley just part of the limitations of the file type. Again the other distortion of the image is due to it being a flat texture stretched across a 3D mesh. The only way to counter this would be to either edit the UV mapping of the mesh or edit your texture in a way that the bits that get pulled out on the model are pushed in on your texture.

Thanks for the reply. Are there tutorials or information on the forum that describes how to edit uv mapping? Or how to work with the mesh so the image shows better on the model? Can you suggest any good ones?

Here's a tutorial I found helpful in regards to editing the UV. It's about how to fix overlap, but that goes over how to resize and move around the texture, so it might be helpful for you.

Any meshing tutorials on here for CAS items should include information on editing the UV map as well. Don't get it confused with the UV_1 though as that is a different type used for telling the game how the item should morph with the body sliders.

Thanks for the information. I haven't poked around in blender yet, but it looks like using a model program is really important to get textures to fit, so I'm going to have to dive right in. I really appreciate the input, the video is very helpful and scary at first, Blender is a daunting program to learn but then again so was Gimp when I first started using it.
