Just me, and maybe I'm behind the times, but while I was building a template in Libre Office Draw for the 4x2x1 graffiti object, I did what I normally do and exported some or all of the textures from a copy of the object I'm trying to build a template from so I have references for dimensions. In this case, I exported all three textures from the object, what the heck.
Lo and behold, I noticed that the first texture exported was half the dimensions of the 2nd and 3rd. So hm, I didn't know different resolutions of normal maps could be applied to the same object type. All these years, I'd been struggling with third-party CC, looking for hi-res pictures with frames, what have you, when I could have just created a normal map twice the resolution (or higher!) of the original.
For example, on the table top picture frame (it depicts a pear), the texture is 128x128, meaning any picture in that frame is crudely rendered indeed for being low-resolution. I set the output of my template to 512x512, and viola! It worked in the game just fine. Did not have to touch the DST or shadow maps, just the normal map (the thing with the actual image on it).
I've only applied higher-resolution textures to pictures and frames, but as long as I use an exact multiple of the original dimensions of the object's default texture, it works in-game.
So yay me for my tiny discovery, I'm sure lots of other people knew about this, but had to share my excitement.

It's always cool to discover something on your own without looking it up. I had to look it up when I first got started. Congratulations are in order my friend!
