Hey guys!
So I tried to film a machinima with the Sims 4, i launched the game, filmed what I had to in the highest uncompressed quality then went and checked what I had filmed. That's when I noticed that the footage recorded with the in game camera was missing loads of frame, just like what you'd get if you recorded a laggy game with Fraps. I then lowered the quality or the recorded videos files, still laggy, and looks like cat vomit.
Here's what I got when filming on high + uncompressed
I should mention that my game is indeed very laggy, but with the Sims 2&3, the game would slow down to ensure every frame was recorded by the in game camera, did EA threw that out the window with TS4 or is it me doing something wrong? Has anyone experienced the same thing? Does it mean that if you do no have the best computer to play TS4 you can kiss machinima goodbye? Please tell me it's me missing something, the reason I got ts4 is machinima if there's no way to record lag-free i might cry
thanks in advance ♥

As someone who basically played sims for the movie / picture making I can understand your woe. I have a very similar issue as well when recording with the in game camera its very laggy and choppy and sometimes it won't even record the scene i want AT ALL it will just lag right the heck by the scene , skip it entirely i mean its rough. That said the smaller lots and lots with less people on it do record better ( not something any story maker cares to hear since we love big scenes with lots loads of people ) The only suggestion I would make as I have had to do this even with sims 2 was get an out of game camera, I use Fraps and it works really well, it may still lag a bit in general but I find it significantly more tolerable than the in game camera lag. There are also other versions of this to use , you don't have to limit yourself to fraps you got a wide variety of other programs that do the same thing you can try until you find what works. good luck on the movie making, and fyi the video still isn't view-able but I already know what the lagging looks like . * edit to say got the video to work so its fine. but i would say also you should try recording just on high instead of uncompressed the quality difference to me is barley noticeable it would cut down on SOME lag and int he end that would result in better quality work

obsproject.com/Thats the best thing I have ever used, its better than fraps imo (and its free), can be a bit of a pain to set up though.

I just got a new one two days ago and im beyond happy with it, fraps actually stoped working on me i kept getting a directx error :/ in the end nothing i could do fixed it , i tried reinstalling directx and everything. Anyway I digress, bottom line even when fraps WAS working I still got lag, better than the in game camera but hey lag is lag and when film making lag is the devil. So I tried this bandicam, now the downside is if you dont buy it its gonna have an annoying watermark but its worth getting it , it really is , i have had like literally zero lag while using it, its not a pain to work with its super duper easy ( im the laziest person in the world when it comes to programs if i cant figure it out in 10 mintues im done lol) So try the free version see if the lag goes away.
Also on a side note, its best to record when you first start playing and not after you have been playing for a while , maybe its just my system I can't be certain but if I have played for longer than an hour and then decide to record something, my memory starts getting bogged down and if it gets to high the lag is insane and sometimes it will even crash . So I would make a choice before starting the game are you gonna play or record cause doing both seems to make it spaz out and start to lag , it maybe because when im recording i tab out of the ui, and that constant tabbing out of the ui always makes it a bit jerky at first. If when you ctrl alt delete and go to process in task manager and the memory is like at about 2,200,000 to 2,500,000 then it runs fine and lag is minimal but usually after 3,000,000k the lag gets unbearable and it can even crash. So try to record when the memory is at its lowest which is usually when the game is first loaded. ( again this might very well be my computer issue not a game issue but if you are running on a system even close to similar as mine it might be something worth knowing)
ps, i have been tryin to find this thread for days cause i wanted to suggest the new out of game recorder and i couldnt remember which forum it was at , doh! glad i found it :P
