Hello all.
Adding custom content to the game sometimes leads to pricing in the catalog that doesn't make sense to me, so I'm going to change some of those. Also, when I recolored a Maxis rug as sheepskin, I thought it should be priced accordingly. It doesn't make sense to me that a wall-to-wall rug of sheepskin could be purchased for under $1000.
So I'd like to hear about how others address this issue before I decide how to proceed.
Do you use Maxis' pricing as a baseline? Think about what would be analogous in real life? Something else?

I think it all depends on what you're making. I guess if something looks expensive, it should be. Or has high stats for things like beds and cooking. I once made a recolor of the top easel for painting, which is a career reward. I priced it at several thousand simoleons. I figured: you really have to invest in high quality art supplies to make good paintings. So you should either really spend on this, or get it "for free" slaving in that pointless art career.
