Hi there! Has anyone made a tutorial on how to add lighting to light source objects? I've heard that it requires vertex paint, I've seen threads with a "light" option in the warehouse (something I've never actually found), but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, nullspace. What are you trying to make? If you're converting a light then chances are you don't need mess with vertex paint since it should already be properly painted. All you need to do is clone a light and all of the properties should be there for you. To find the light source, go into warehouse and scroll down until you see the light under type. If you do think it's a vertex paint problem, then check out this post: sims4studio.com/post/24646/thread. In your case, you would paint the areas that you want to glow white.

The light resource and the vertex paint that lights have are two different things. The Light resource is what provides the actual illumination effect in the game. Vertex paint, for lights, is used by EA to determine how that light effect shows on the object that is a light. For example this is an EA lamp in Blender set to show the vertex paint EA gave it: As you can see the lamp shade (and the bulb which you can't see from this angle) have white vertex paint. The base of the lamp is a dark grey. The portion of the lamp between the base and the shade are in a gray gradient. This set up is what makes it so, in the game, when the lamp is turned on the lampshade and bulb show the most effect from the Light effect, the base shows the least, and the part between shows a gentle gradient of light between the two. While it is not necessary to use vertex paint to get the Light effect to work painting your lamp as EA paints theirs will add an extra touch of realism to your object when the lamp is turned on. If you clone a lamp it will come with the Light resource there already. If you are editing that mesh then it will already be vertex painted. If you're bringing a new mesh into Blender that was not previously vertex painted it will not have vertex paint and Studio will not apply vertex paint that is like EA's vertex paint. If you make the object from scratch in Blender and don't vertex paint it then it will similarly lack vertex painting like EA's.

Every time I clone a light, the "light" resource is missing. Is there a specific light you're cloning?

What light are you cloning?

Um. I'm a derp. So I was just clicking recolor by habit, not actually doing the selective clone. Once I do that I can see the light resource. :x

Then, from this image: what does transform, V1, V2, and V3 refer to?

Does anyone know this?

Transform is the coordinates. Normally only the middle coord will have a value that is not a 0, and that's the Z axis, or height of the light source. I don't know much about V's but I know that U's are responsible for the light area. sims4studio.com/post/21199/thread

Hello there. Do you know by any chance if there's a detailed tutorial how to add light to a mirror? I'm a complete newbie.
