I recently made an override of the energy drink/energy juice. It works! It is also present in the game for only about two and half seconds in the Sim's fist before disappearing. But when I cloned it as a deco object and put the textures on that and took a look at it in game, the textures looked horrible. :( I was using an icon from TheSimKids' Ultimate Game Icon Pack. I have Photoshop 7.0 and do *not* have cash to buy new plug-ins. Does anyone have suggestions on keeping the integrity of the image when shrinking it down to a handful of pixels? Does anyone know if any of the common free 2D editors in use would be better suited to dealing with this?

I use Gimp as I don't have money for PS. Another thing to look at is did you remove the Geostates? That is what I had to do for my wine bottle.

Thank you for the suggestion, Design4Sims. I found the tut for it, so I'll give that a try.
I didn't know how expensive Photoshop was when I first got it. It came with a hand-me-down computer from my husband's workplace. We must have gotten the computer before my son started studying graphic design in high school, because I'm sure he would have had something to say about it otherwise.
I'd only fiddled with it a bit before embarking doing recolors for TS4. It's definitely been a learning experience.

Well, unfortunately, the pencil cup I cloned the mesh from doesn't have any geostates, so that doesn't fix the problem.

What size is the texture?

What size is the texture? Really small - 64 pixels. That's half the size of the textures I used for my notebook recolors, where I felt the quality of the graphics were acceptable.

What was the original size of the icon you are trying to use?

The icons are 128 pixels square. I'm scaling them down to about a quarter of the size of the 64 pixel square background texture (which I erroneously said above was half of 128 instead of a quarter), so about eight times smaller.

why do you need to scale it down? Why not leave it at 128x128?

why do you need to scale it down? Why not leave it at 128x128? Because the icon is larger than what I'm trying to decorate with it. icon: 128x128 background: 64x64

I found an online site you can try HERE. Or just make your background biger.
