Hello! What really makes a CC Maxis match are the textures. There's not actually a tutorial about it because it depends on what you're making. For example, if you're making a wood table, you would need to find a wood texture that is similar to the one EA uses for almost all of the wood textures in game. As for the wood example, I know Lexicon extracted some of the wood textures and have the files to downloads HERE. It's a very useful resource to have into account. For other materials, what I would do is cloning an EA item that has the texture I want to re-use and export the diffuse. Then, in a 2d editor you will copy that texture for future use in your projects. You can do this with metal, wool, other wood textures, and so on. The item that would look the most like EA is the one that have its aesthetics almost the same. This process takes time and a lot of trial and error. You will over time know which items to extract the textures and how to use it in your benefit. If you need some assist in what textures you should use, tell more about the project you would like to make.

simsoree maxis match tends to mean it matches the texture style of maxis creations. If you're making a hair for example you could extract the hair texture from a maxis hair and use it with your hair so it would match the other hairstyles done in the game. If you gave an example of what you wanted to do I'd be happy to try and give some pointers for making your creations match.

Simsoree I don't really understand what you mean... can you explain a little more? You're talking about apha, but there's no texture called alpha in clothes. If you want something to look Maxis Match I would clone a Maxis top and see the texture. What makes the texture is the aesthetics EA choose to make them, you need to compare and see what varies with yours. Mostly, they add wrinckes and other stuff you can find tutorials in the internet depending on the 2d editor.

Do you have a bit more specific things you're wondering about? :-) Have you tried making a M.M. clothing texture and not succeeded? Is there a particular part of it that you're confused about?
Generally speaking, people who don't do M.M. textures (for any type of CC) either use photos for their textures, which often are too detailed (too "real") and potentially also have things like shadows and light effects that shouldn't be on the texture but rather generated in the game. And generally, M.M. textures are more stylised and less "realistically" detailed (they may still have a lot of detail though), and may have a soft shading or light around edges to emphasise the shape of the mesh.
Edit: A way to start is also to export a couple different Maxis textures you like and try to edit/use them on other clothing, for example, grab a texture from a skirt and try to adapt it onto the texture of a tanktop instead. That lets you work with M.M. style textures without the pressure of creating them from scratch from the very beginning, and you can gradually study what they look like until you feel more confident in creating your own.

Maybe it would be easier for people to help if you can post some of your attempted textures (if you feel comfortable doing that) so people can give some constructive criticism on them? I wish I could say something helpful but it's a bit hard to talk about something visual without using visuals :-P

I merged both of your threads to here since you asked the same question twice, this way the answers don't get lost between threads since we are talking the same.

For objects, use maxis/ea wood texture and low poly meshes. For clothing, edit ea textures or make new ones... no photoskinning.
