Hi everyone,
I was wondering if using [ _ ] underscores or [ - ] hyphens or spaces in your file name cause slower loading times? I know on Sims 2 they said it did and to rename them and remove any and all odd or strange characters in the names to help with load times.
I searched for it in regards to naming .package files for Sims 4 and the information stated the same, but that hyphens, spaces, and underscores were the worst to have in your file name.
So, I was just wondering what the protocol was.
Thanks for any help, thoughts, or suggestions!

I have no idea if this is true or not. I do know many downloaders believe it is. For that reason, I stopped using any underscores in my file names. I don't miss them now that I don't use them. I don't know how others feel about this, but files with an _ at the start (to bump them to the top of any list) are a peeve of mine. I remove them from any file I download so things show up in alphabetical order instead of basically forming two lists in alpha order (the first with all the annoying _'s in the file name and the second with all the files that don't have this irritating thing).

In early computing (dont know what they mean by early) you couldn't put spaces in filenames so an underscore was used. The use of "." is not recommended because it can cause confusion between the file name and file format (.jpg .bend etc). Also on some file servers a space is translated to a "%" Ive been told. Notice how there are no gaps in email/web addresses
Its also widely accepted that its easier for humans to read male_shirt than to read male shirt, which is another reason they are still used.
From a creators point of view it keeps our files nice and clean, eg
red_couch blue_table big_kahuna MrS_smells
is easier to read than red couch blue table big kahuna MrS smells
Because the former looks one word and can not be mistaken for a single word. Basically its a creator thing to keep things organized for us, and it was they way I was taught to do things.

I completely agree with MisterS in this one. It happens the same to me. By putting the _ my files are so much easy to read and to organize. But I guess this is just personal. I'm sorry if you get annoyed by my downloads, but all of them have that space bar

I rename basically everything, because I like to keep things together so I know where to look. I can't stand spaces in a name and usually name things like this "Object_Description_Creator" so that things stay together (Example: Beard_ManlyMansLumiaLoverSims). I prefer UpperLowercase naming, but I think most do not.

Thanks for the feedback! I prefer to put an underscore ( _ ) between my file words as well to make it easier to read rather than one giant run-on word, I just wanted to make sure that didn't slow the game down or cause unnecessary slower loading times.

I don't know if it does or not. I know some players swear it does. I name my stuff omSofaFantastic with no spaces or underscores. I don't mind when someone uses underscores, and I get why people like using them. I just really find it annoying when people use them at the beginning of the file name to bump their item to the top of an alphabetical list. Like this: _somerandomcreator_whowantstobeatthetopofthelist. I also don't like the [iamsoimportant]_mysuperimportantCC trick that LuvMySimz mentioned. Basically, anything that isn't just the plain creator name at the lead of the file name is annoying.

OH no, I feel that I've caused a lot of trouble to all of You by just reading this post. I didn't use to put underscores in My mods names before , & never put My name on My mods, But I've seen a lot of people doing that so I thought that I have to do it ? in order to make the mod sorting/ naming more professional ? lol

SACRIFICIAL Personaly, I like the .packages having the creator's name. But again I think this is personal. I use it a lot because I have my mods by creator's name folders. So it is easier when I go into a download rampage to know where to put each thing

Hi! Welcome to the forum. You can find the "Creator Name" as soon as you first open the main window of Sims 4 Studio. You should complete the blank box with your username or the one you want displayed. This creator name will appear inside the coding of your packages that will tell others who created it if they were to open it again in Sims 4 Studio. Remember to use only letters (english/latin alphabet) and not any weird symbols or spaces.
