Hi I'm working on getting part of my object to be transparent. I am following the tut by orangemittens but I keep having problems with how my warehouse looks compared to the tut. I read some others that were having this problem and the advice offered was to clone an item that already had a transparent part. So that worked to get me through the first couple of steps but I got stuck on step 10 this time. I do not see a line that says "ALphablended". I would like to ask Orangemitttens , what is the original item that was cloned to make this tut so that I can use that also. Or is there anyone that can tell me a decorative object that worked for them with this tut? Thanks Here's a link to the tut. sims4studio.com/thread/1037/make-object-transparency-add-alpha?page=4

Hi! What item are you trying to make transparent? If you clone an item that already has transparency you won't need to edit fields in the warehouse. But only match the correct cut numbers of the transparent part. A good item to clone as deco that has already transparency and solid parts is the "Scrolls" from base game.

Thank you I'll look for that. I cloned the Dining Hutch..sorry don't know the real name. But it has transparent windows. Two questions...You said "If you clone an item that already has transparency you won't need to edit fields in the warehouse." Do you mean if I have an item that already has transparency I can skip those steps in warehouse completely? Also you said, "But only match the correct cut numbers of the transparent part." I matched the cut numbers of the object of the dining hutch in my new mesh..I'm not sure what you mean by only matching the transparent "part". Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can skip the steps in the warehouse. For example. If you clone the scrolls and you export it to Blender. You will find that it has 3 mesh groups. One for the shadow plane, one for the solid part of the item and one for the transparent part of the item.
So let's say you have a table, you want the surface to be transparent and the legs to be solid. You will only need to split the geometry in 2 groups. Then look at the cut number the solid part of the EA items has and assign that to your legs. Then look at the cut number for the transparent group of the EA item and assign that to the mesh group of your table's surface. This way, when you import the mesh into Studio the transparency group will be all set up and you won't need to edit the warehouse. You will only need to edit the texture (diffuse) to make it transparent. Either via reducing the opacity or making a greyscale alpha if you work with .dds files.
To split geometry into a new group in Blender you can select the faces, edges or vertices of the part you want to separate and hit P in your keyboard. Then choose selection. This will make a new group out of the parts you were selecting.

Thank you so much! I tried using the scrolls and splitting my mesh in two and it worked. I didn't know that about hitting P in Blender. So handy thanks again
