I'm playing a Sim who made a bunch of money with her culinary career and now owns a restaurant. It's the first time I've played a restaurant, but I didn't go in without researching; I read over the extensive information available through Carl's Guide. Still, I find the game play annoying.
Does anyone have insight into the problems I'm encountering?
Sometimes employees just don't show up. I can't see that there is anything that Sims can do to address that problem? You can't call them in as far as I know and you can't criticize them if they aren't there. But the game doesn't even acknowledge it with a notice. Is it a glitch? Do you demote the person to prevent it from happening? I don't want to fire employees that my Sim has already spent simoleans training and finally has high skills.
Today the host didn't show up so everyone else's time just added up to a loss.
Then the employees sometimes just choose not to do their jobs. By the end of the shift, when I reopened the restaurant, the cooks just stopped cooking altogether as far as I can tell. But how can you tell? Their animations for idling and cooking look the same to me. How am I supposed to know who to criticize? The Sims at the last 3 tables seated, including the food critic, all left with angry red stars over their heads.
And why does this happen or the food comes out out bad when the cooks have maxed skill, are at the top of the pay scale, and have been given praise whenever it was an available interaction? Yes, they get over-worked regularly, but they seem to have stopped working well before that and probably could have gone home in a timely manner if they hadn't left everyone waiting.
Another time, the game just blanked out all interactions with the food critic once he was seated. His food couldn't be prioritized and nothing could be comped once his food finally arrived to try to make up for it.
If this is how the game play is supposed to work, I think that EA could do a much better job with it. It's not fun to have the game just undermine things for no reason. It's not like they actually create a challenge that can be met. It's not like TS2 where crazy things that were outside of your control would happen and at least it was funny. It's just a series of unexplained events that you can't do anything about.
