My new choice of Insanity, or shall we say - "Project", is trying to make Floor Patterns SHINY. Direct from the Floor Pattern Files, no Object Swapping. The Floor Pattern on the Left is the result of adjusting the Shader settings on the Floor Material Definition File. The One on the Right is the Original, base game File. No it isn't Shiny yet but I wanted to share this First round of Poke and Prod, nonetheless. After researching LOD's, (Level Of Detail), from a discussion about an entirely different game genre... There was a Code posted about, "How to Improve Lod Floater Settings". Some other things about Planar Reflections, etc. Won't go into that now. The List basically broke down to this: Floater Settings Ultra 2.0 - 5 Very High 1.0 - 4 High 0.9 - 3 Medium 0.75 - 2 Low 0.6 - 1
So, after I read this - I changed everything Listed under, "Floats", to 5. The, "Shininess", to 100. Just to see what would happen. No shiny Floor, just more detailed it seems. End of Transmission....Rock On!

Yes, I researched that Today. Was reading about Normal Mapping Issues with GIMP and found a link to add some files into the Gimp Library. PS does not have the same issue, so I've read, who knows? Gimp Normal Map plug inThis will allow you to Map the Normals adding "Shine" and also enables Export to a RXGB(DXT5) File. Going to Experiment Tonight after Dinner.... ;°P

I tried using the RXGB DXT5 to replace the Normal but, alas - NoGo. I thought that would make the File a Good one shot, done deal, without Toying with numbers on Shaders.
I DL'ed your Example Link and took a look - Yes, it is the Normal File that holds the key - Not the Specular File. Here is the Strange part about that guys .package - the .package file is 5.88mb.
But when you export his Normal .DDS file and check the info, in Gimp, the .DDS is OVER 10MB!! Which leaves me to conclude that this is a Tooled Normal - ie: Possible Vertex Paint and Bumps added/layered. Sure, he uses 1024x1024 - much larger than the Base settings, but still - 10MB....Tooled.
I poked around in his shader numbers, while some things were adjusted minutely', not much to make a Huge difference.
So, Tooled Normal.
End of Transmission - Rock On!

Objects, walls, floors, etc. use a regular DDS for their specular and don't have problems that the CAS RLES has.

I couldn't get kiwisims floors to shine in-game, much less mine. Then, I realized something - Total Dumb: GAME SETTINGS. Lighting - High Reflections - High Visual Effects - High
Then, you will get some shine. It also depends on your System - High End/Low End. The Pic below shows Kiwisims - "Shiny" - Floors, I did not notice anything like his picture shows. He is probably using a High-End system. The Tiles around the Wood are something I have been working on, they practically lit up the room on certain angles of the Light. Settings on High. This is the problem, if you are like me - you don't want all of your settings on High. Bottom line, it's a personal decision with shiny' anything - they look just as good without in my' Opinion.

I agree with you that the settings in this game make things look very different depending on how you set them. For a game that was supposed to run on a toaster it has a pretty high system demand if you want things to look halfway decent in my opinion.

Indeed. They removed many options to make the game lighter and yet we can't get a decent looking game if the settings are not High :/
