UPDATE - PROBLEM SOLVED! Someone suggested me to apply Modding > Embed all externally applied resources (CAS). I tried it and it seems to have worked so far.
So I'm trying to recolor base game objects converted from sims 3 and am facing graphic distortion. So, I opened the TS3 item in TSR Workshop, changed the pattern, saved the changed texture, then while recoloring the very same item converted to TS4(not by me), I applied this texture. It looks fine inside S4S. In-game, it looks and works fine, but, when I zoom out/from other angles, the patterns (only, not the mesh) start to distort. Is it because of the pattern which is the sims 3 base game herringbone pattern, or am I missing something? This is the sofa close-up from a particular angle with minimum distortion. Even with a little zooming out, the distortion is huge. This is using a simpler pattern, the distortion is much less in this pattern. But not completely non existent, as here too, on rotating or zooming out the texture results in distortion once again. This is texture whose patterns I tried to change - This is the texture exported without any changes - Any help will be greatly appreciated! (And in order to apply the pattern, I used the pattern TSR Workshop to custom color the base game pattern then save it as sims3pack and converted it to .package with a converter) Lastly, sorry if I broke any rules by posting this! I truly apologize. Note - Since I'm completely dumb in this field, I would like to tell two more things, not sure if it's necessary or not. (1)I didn't do anything with the specmap, just save the diffusemap, as I think that's the main texture? (2)In this particular item there were three patterns, one for the sofa fabric, one for the legs, and one was a solid color. I didn't do any changes in pattern to that last one.

It's an interesting question and one that is difficult to answer without seeing the .package. Can you post it?

Thank you for replying! Sorry I'm new here and I hate to sound stupid, but by sharing package file you mean post a link to it right or is there a direct way to post it in this forum? This is my onedrive link with both files- HereThe package file called 'Sofa1.package' is surely one of the attempts while the one called ColonialSofa_Attempt_1 is probably another one of the attempts.(Although it might be the one I tried to convert from ts3 to ts4 directly with the same problems but additional but that is a different story can be solved later :D)

Hi dsanyal1234, the "Embed all externally applied resources (CAS)" feature will not do anything to a .package unless the content of the .package is CAS. That is to say, because your item is an object, that feature won't do anything. I cannot really explain why you saw a difference after clicking that, did you do something else also? Is the problem with the texture solved or do you still need someone to look at the .package to see what's going on with that?

I've clearly done nothing else except that. It also happened while I was recoloring paintings yesterday, so I did it as a final attempt, and that worked. Today someone told me to try that, and it worked. I don't know how. I've been having a different problem though in converting sims 3 objects to sims 4. The sofa whose issue is mentioned here, I tried converting it directly, and like another item before that(a pedestal), it had a texture problem too. It had some sort of shadow problem? Where the texture was kind of overlapped in places by gray tints/shadows. I also wasn't able to use it to sit. A lamp I'm trying to convert also shows the same problem. I have a few questions though: How can I differentiate between a shadow and a mesh in Blender while converting? And is it possible that I open a .obj file that has multiple separate meshes? I think my main problem lies with specmap. Which one of the DST Image am I to replace with the Specmap I obtain from my sims 3 item? I'm a bit confused.

I cannot say why this seems to be working but that option acts only on CAS resources. There is no code in it that will allow it to do anything to object resources. It's quite odd that it appears to be doing something in these situations when it isn't possible for it to do anything. Sims 3 and Sims 4 both use planes that lie below or behind a main mesh to create shadows for the item. These are mapped to the so-called "blob sheet" which looks like a white image with shadowy blobs all over it. You can identify that because it never looks like anything but a flat sheet. .obj files can contain multiple meshes. If the EA item you're using for your clone has only one mesh group for the main mesh, you will need to condense the multiple meshes into a single mesh. I wrote a tutorial showing how to convert Sims 2 items to Sims 4. That tutorial shows how I converted a multiple mesh group item into a single mesh group item, so even though it shows the conversion of a Sims 2 item, it may help you with your multiple mesh group project. The documentation I wrote called Components of an EA Object shows the various image types including specular images. I think looking at that documentation may help you. You can find it HERE.

Hi, I realized that although I had done that option, there was something else I had done which brought about the difference alongside it in all of the three cases. Exporting the texture from ts3 as .png instead of .dds is what brought about the difference. The painting case though, I had some distortion in the picture when I applied a tint to the entire picture over the parts which didn't correspond to the frame part. I'm not sure of the terminology used. That part became grainy while the original texture had the "background" smooth and monochromatic. I had then pasted just the recolored frame with my painting pasted over. Then it had worked. I forgot I had done these minute things. I think it wasn't the option as you mentioned. I thought the same too as it said CAS.

I am sure it was not the use of the "Embed all" feature as that will not affect the resources of object.packages at all. The situation you're describing though does explain things. If an image is not a correctly made .dds (lacks mipmaps), importing it into Studio will give poor results in the game. On the other hand, if you import the same image into Studio as a .png, Studio will add the mipmaps and it will look fine in the game. I'm glad you have things working now

Hi, thanks for replying! I just converted a TS3 item to TS4 (an end table), and I used all .png textures instead of .dds. This is the first time I saw in-game that the texture appears alright! However I can't figure out how to change the slot height? It still has the old table's slot height which is slightly higher. Can you tell me what should I do? Am I supposed to follow this tutorial - sims4studio.com/thread/4420/use-sims-studios-slot-editor to fix that? I'm a noob in this field so, any help would be appreciated

Yes, that tutorial will walk you through how to use Studio's slot editor

Thank you! The tutorial works fine, and the other tutorial on bump maps helped me fix the conversion issues! My heartfelt gratitude to the team here for making my dreams come true :D
