I found this new (well I don't know if its new, but new to me) tool, called S4PE!!! I have been really picky with my CC content... downloading only what I use. But my game was lagging. I have a pretty cheap PC, so I'm sure the poor thing can't handle much. But with S4PE it has increased the performance dramatically! Yay!

Sims 4 Studio is able to merge files since a long time from now and it's also really easy to use. Not saying S4PE can't be useful but it is usually easier to get lost in that UI rather than with Studio's tool which is really user friendly in my opinion. To merge files with Studio you can go to Tools/Merge Packages, a pop up will open and you can drag or select the files you'd like to merge, you then save the file and it's done.

Wow, I just tried it (actually had S4S and didn't realize it) and its so much fasterr than S4PE.... thank you!!!!!

I do not recommend using s4pe to merge files. s4pe has a known bug that causes files that it merges to become corrupt. This bug has been reported here at Studio forums and elsewhere. Studio can merge files successfully and more quickly. There is no reason to use the outdated s4pe for this purpose, and doing so could damage your custom content files.

New to Sims, and Sims 4... started playing because I am on maternity leave. Why do you merge files and what does it do to the game. I have an Asus laptop, and the game lags bad. Daughter has roughly 2000 CC files.

hunnybee hi hunny! In theory, the less packages the game has to read to load, the faster it will run. So by merging say 40 packages in 1, then it should make the game run faster. But that's only the tip of the iceberg, you should also consider the machine you have and the requirements of the game. If you ever decide to merge your files (or your daughter's) you should always keep the individual packages saved and backed up somewhere in case something happens. Also back up of your saves folder, tray, screenshot. Having those precautions never hurt anybody

But luckily I was talking to some people who advised me about merging files, S4S for testing. I keep track of everything I DL, and have a back up folder of files on my desktop, Just in case something goes wrong.

For instance, if I went to TSR and downloaded all the kitchens, could I merge them in to one package without hurting the game?

IIRC, an EA representative said the functional limit to the size of a single package is about 4 gig (don't quote me though, that was a long time ago). However, the game files themselves do not contain a package larger than about 1 gig. I would not recommend making any package larger than the largest one in the game files. I second what inabadromance said, you should retain a backup of individual packages just in case later you want to remove or add content or in case something goes wrong. The easiest way to do this is to move all the individual packages in your Mods folder to a folder in a safe place after you have merged them.

How do I know how big each merged file is not more than 24? A byte is 8 bits. A kilobyte is 1024 bytes. A megabyte 1,024 kilobytes or 1,048,576 bytes. A gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes or 1,048,576 kilobytes. A terabyte is 1,024 gigabytes or 1,048,576 megabytes. I found this a long time ago. You can go in to your documents folder and it will show you the size of your packages. For example, I just merged all my dining room stuff. my package is 481,570 KB. Which is no where near one gig and I had 199+ files in that one single merge. Does that help? I am personally trying to stay under 200 files per merge to stay safe.

wow, it does. So you must have a lot of CC? Do people generally use lots of CC files. I have read in forums some people have thousands or more
