Sea Serpent Mermaid TailFirst, I'd like to give a HUGE thank you to mauvemorn of Sims 4 Studio! This conversion would not have been possible without them! The Sea Serpent mermaid tail from my Oblivion mod, Melusine - A Merfolk Race Mod, converted to The Sims 4: Island Living! 10 swatches available for both males and females, teen - elder, and works with CC skins! (Thanks to Anto for info on making mermaid tails compatible with CC skins!)Requires Island Living expansion pack!
Notice: The dorsal (back) fin will deform on plus-sized sims, especially those with both body fat and muscle mass maxed out. We have reduced these deformations to the best of our knowledge, but there's room for improvement. If you know how to reduce these deformations any further, please contact me. Screenshot credits: TOU: Under the condition that you provide credit to me (Neverwinter Pinata and/or Neverwinter Knight), and others who are credited for the file(s) you want to use, you may do whatever you want with my files, bearing the following exceptions:
- You may NOT claim the files as your own, even if modified. - Convert to other software without my permission. (Please contact me first.)
- Redistribute unaltered/unmodified files, neither standalone nor as a package/compilation. (An exception includes retextures. If you are unsure, please contact me.)
Although not required, I would also appreciate it if you show me your work! It just warms my heart to see others enjoying the fruits of my labors! :-). It turns out the distortion of the dorsal fin was caused by its UV data being on the far left UV island, so I simply moved it to the center of the middle island, and this is the result: Not a perfect result, as the dorsal fin does lose some detail the heavier the sim becomes, but I don't think it can get much better than this, so I am willing to accept it. With that, I consider this case closed! mauvemorn, thank you so much for your wonderful help! This conversion would not have come this far without it! You will be credited when this tail gets released!

This Ugggh, so the horizontal placement affects things after all. I can't check right now, but you can try this to fix the abdominal issue: 1). Unfold rig and make top selectable (cursor icon next to eye icon); 1). Choose its uv_1 map, switch to edit mode, select everything, set the same background texture, shift-select your tail, switch to edit mode, try to align vertices in the horizontal top loop of your tail to the ones in the top's bottom loop. As for spikes, the only thing i can think of is to just select ,say, all spikes on the front right side, and align them by X, do the same for the right back side and check in game I'm terribly sorry, I didn't realize you already provided the answer. I will now experiment on the dorsal fin, and will update this thread with my findings.

LMAO so that what it was I just deleted and re-transferred the weights I see. And what did you do differently this time to create the UV's?

Exciting news! The only thing that caused the distortion above is the far left UV island of uv_1 being inverted. I just flipped it horizontally, and this is the result: We are so close now! All that's left is to find out how to straighten out the dorsal fin! The edited .blend can be downloaded here. I also smoothed the weight paints for a less crooked fin. How did you fix the weight paints in your previous edit, by the way?

Thank you very much for your thorough tutorial, mauvemorn! Unfortunately, while certain aspects have certainly improved after I followed your tutorial, the hips are now sunken, and all of the fins, except the bottom one, are distorted to some degree. Examples: Can you please tell me what I did wrong? The new .blend can be downloaded here.

Hi. We need to actually see the blend to be able to tell what's wrong. The only thing i can guess is that your tail is longer than the default ea one so it clips in the ground Thank you for your reply! The .blend can be downloaded here.

Ever since Island Living came out, I was inspired to create mermaid tails for TS4. So, I decided to start out by converting a tail I used for my Oblivion mod -- Melusine - A Merfolk Race Mod -- to The Sim's male body. The tail is almost done -- at least for males -- but there are two major problems getting in the way of completion, and I cannot seem to figure them out on my own. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated! 1. The dreaded uv_1 On average or slim-bodied sims the tail looks alright, but the tail does not properly scale on plus-sized sims, making their bodies below the waist 'implode' into it. Not only that, but the dorsal and side fins also sink into the tail itself. Also, the dorsal fin stretches with the tail. Example photos: And the above examples were the result of tweaking the tail's uv_1 to the best of my knowledge, using the uv_1 of the default tail and the human lower body as examples. My tail's uv_1 currently looks like this: 2. The fluke/fin As you can see above, the fin of my tail clips with the ground, while the default tail avoids this. Despite copying the weights from the default tail to my tail, the fin does not seem to follow the toe bones, which is odd because my tail has those weights in Blender: Any advice and/or assistance will be greatly appreciated, and you will be credited for your help when this tail gets released! Thank you for reading, and good fortune to you in your current and future endeavors!

Aww, you beat me to it! :-P. Congratulations on creating such a lovely mermaid tail, and one that works so well with the human swimming animations!

Neverwinter did you finish the merman tail and where can I download. Also any plans on making a female version pretty pls. I love the look of it. I am really, REALLY sorry for the late reply, and especially for how long this project has taken me. The truth is, I was waiting for the artist who volunteered to create the texture to...well...create the texture, but he never did. As I waited and waited, my interest in the project declined, and, to this day, it remains unfinished. However, with my growing experience with 3D modeling and texturing, I will attempt to tackle future projects on my own. As for this one in particular...I've kind of lost interest in it. But, I plan on creating a totally new tail, and one that has better proportions than this one. (And yes, it will be for both males and females.) I may return to this particular project in the future, but no guarantees.

Good news! Tithis String -- a very talented artist from Second Life and dear friend of mine -- has volunteered to help me texture the tail! Merman Simmer, I will let you know if I ever need additional help. Thank you for your willingness to support the project!

10/19/2016 Update: I have officially found a texture artist who will help me with this project! Hello everyone! I have created this thread looking for a talented texture artist to help me with a merfolk project I am currently working on. The tail itself is, as the title indicates, inspired by Flounder from Disney's 1989 animated film, The Little Mermaid! The model of the tail, currently for adult males only*, is largely finished and in a playable state! All I need now are Diffuse, Normal, Specular and Shadow maps for it! I have attempted to create my own diffuse map, but I have never been impressed by my own attempts at texturing. Here is a WIP version of my diffuse texture in-game: (The white fingers are due to a texture error which will be fixed before the official release!) If you are willing to create a detailed and colorable GIMP-friendly texture for this tail, I would highly appreciate it! Normal, specular and shadow maps would also be highly appreciated, but I can generate those myself if you are not willing to make them yourself. I will send you the UV map as well as my WIP diffuse texture (in .xcf format) if you volunteer, and you will be credited for your work! Thank you so much for reading, and good fortune to you in your current and future endeavors! *Once the male version of the tail is 100% finished, I will begin work on converting it for male children, as well as child and adult females.
