As far as I know, kitkat hasn't been online here for seven months, unfortunately. The quick and dirty way to make an RGB specular for a Sims 4 item is to find an EA item you like the shine of, export its specular, slice a piece of it, resize it to fit your image, and use that. If this tutorial isn't updated in a little while, I'll write one showing how to create a spec that way and a brand new one using Paint.net. Hi orangemittens! I know that you made this post a few years back, but can we can get a updated version of this tut for Paint.net still please? Or maybe if it's less taxing for you (I can imagine a Paint.net tut might be more time-consuming to write), a basic "quick & dirty" tutorial for us visual learners? I don't have Photoshop & i've spent way too much time trying to add an alpha layer to the channels in Gimp . Paint.net is what I normally use and what i'm most comfortable using, but I don't mind adding spec the quick//dirty way.

Hi Fiona, thanks for responding! That's unfortunate about paint.net since that's the only program that I use, but what about the quick/dirty method? Or even a GIMP tut? Basically I do not own photoshop/paintshop, and I need a alternate way to add spec without having to use those programs..

Basically I do not own photoshop/paintshop, and I need a alternate way to add spec without having to use those programs.. My method is to find the object with the specular that I want to achieve, extract specular maps and pick the color with color pick tool. When I extract the specular it is semi-transparent so I duplicate the layer until there is no transparency and then pick the color. This is my dirty go-to method because if to be super honest I have difficult time deciphering how to fiddle with all the channels. It is easier for me to pick the color that EA used in their object and recreate my specular with that color. To extract the specular from another item you can use object previewer by entering a cheat code object-preview in console (CTRL+SHIFT+C).

Hi! I'm trying to make shiny furniture right now. Of course I found the tutorial and did everything as written. It didn't work and I don't know where my mistake is. As soon as I edit an RGB channel (lighter or darker) to give it shine, all channels change equally. I can't just edit one channel without the others changing too. I have to mention that I only know the basics from Sims 4 Studio. I'm currently studying, but I can't find what I want to know anywhere. The thing about the channels in PhotoShop gives me a headache. I'm already dreaming of it ;-( Can someone help me? Many Thanks!
