I've tried making these scars as skin details, tattoos, face paint, etc. They always have these weird grey spots in the same places, though. It looks like this in both S4S and in game. How do I fix this?

Hi makesims. Without having the .package to look at, and also without knowing which version (which cloned part type) you are showing as your example (I assume Left is the actual texture/right is Studio preview), these are my ideas of what could be the issue(s): - Not importing .dds as the texture. PNG format would be unreliable for such detail to depend on for the alpha channel (for any type of cloned feature) - left over/unchanged specular or bump mapping from the cloned .package (thinking it is a Skin Detail on the right) - a .dds file that didn't have the alpha fill EXACTLY white (most any CAS facial/skin item clone will show how Maxis does their detail/coloring - with a Crisp, Clean alpha and a semi-blurred color) - a lower texture setting in the DDS Export panel (under Image Options or Sharpening) Please try to share the .package so that we can get a better idea and narrow down the possibilities! Cheers!

If you are saving in .dds try saving in .png and vice versa. This are artifacts due to compression. And agree with all above. If you want only cuts/scars, you need to have only cuts/scars on a transparent background.

Hi Feyona!!! Artifacts was my first thought too! I stared at them, though, and they seem to have some sort of possible pattern if only looking at the grey spots themselves... If I were a betting person, I would *maybe* put money of a Vampire facial feature clone, but fortunately I am not a betting person... And so true about if not one format, then try another... So weird how that can make a Huge difference. Cheers!

Hi minimonster. I noticed that artifacts usually appear on textures that were painted with one color, light or bright color like read. If it's a gradient it is either not noticeable, or there are no artifacts. But if it's a light beige then they will appear if I save in .png. For light textures I usually use .dds.

I don't know how to reply? Here's the image: i.imgur.com/qMT9K7J.pngI don't have any package files because I deleted them once I saw that the grey spots were still present.

Sorry, but if you don't have a project anymore, what are we looking at then? You already got advices about what to do above. Try other methods of importing texture and see if it works.

You will need to download some DDS plugins for whatever art program you are using. They are available for GIMP and Photoshop at least.

Found a DDS plugin, tried exporting as a DDS. When I try to import it into S4S, I get this error message: "Your texture has no mipmaps. Please save your texture again with mipmaps."

that option appears during the saving process of the texture, you should look for it and tick it.

There's still grey spots. They're a lot more subtle though... So I guess I can live with that.

I put it into my game and it doesn't even show up. This is such a fun journey.

If you share your package then someone will be able to take a look and see if they can spot whats wrong.
