Hello, I am up to part IV, step 8 on this. When I select the 'left' earring, (right when on '1' view setting), nothing happens, it doesn't appear in the UV screen. Would really love some help ! Thanks

Hey! This is my first comment here on the forums, and let me just say thank you very much! the tutorial was so helpful, and I've made my own earings ( they are kind of ugly but i had fun learning how to make them) I recently started to develop interest in 3d modeling and applying them to the sims 4. And I have some questions that i would appreciate if you would answer. First, i still didn't quite understand the deal with the second UV map, what if i wanted to create something else without any parts of the earings. How would i know where to locate it? And why in this tutorial, did i have to scale down the mesh map in the second UV map to be almost as big as EA's rest of the earings? Also why did i have to position it exactly on EA's rest of the earing (the grey bit that touch the ears). And lastly, this earings has 3d parts that go inside each other that makes them sort of twitch while the camera move, like they are clipping to each other. Is there a way to join them into one form? I think those are all of my questions for now, I am sorry for grammer mistakes, english is my second language. Thank you for the help and your will to help others

Hi kuroyui, welcome to Studio forums. The earrings came out great and I'm really happy this tutorial helped you If you wanted to make a new accessory item you would need to have a general idea of where to put the second UV. The way I figured this out was by cloning EA items and looking at where they placed the second UV depending on what the item is. There is also a set of uv_1 templates (male, female) posted HERE. In this tutorial, because accessories aren't as picky about their second UV as clothing items are, all you have to do is approximate the size and placement of EA's earring second UV. If you were to make a garment or hair from scratch the process of unwrapping the second UV is much more involved. The reason I kept a portion of EA's earring for this tutorial was because this is a beginner's tutorial and this was the easiest way of showing the various elements of an EA accessory. Once having made the decision to keep a part of EA's earring the thing that made the most sense was to place the new earring part so it looked like it was dangling from the EA earring part. If you made a new earring you would not have to have part of EA's earring remain. If the item is flickering it's because the parts of the mesh are too close together in the same exact plane. You could make one of the triangles thinner than the other by a slight amount and that would fix the flickering. Otherwise you could construct the mesh so that the entire thing was a single piece similar to how parts of the peace earring I showed are a single piece.

hello dear orangemittens. Thank you for this very clear and precise tutorial. I managed to finish the mesh, and it turns out ok, but when importing it to S4studio, the remaining part of EA mesh - instead of showing up metallic grey, became of the same color as the skin. I think it has something to do with the uv map part but I'm not sure. May I send you the .package so you could have a look at what I did wrong? Plus I join a screenshot of my view in S4S. screenshot : package file : linkThank you very much

Hi kanno, I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful. I looked at your earrings in Blender. A portion of the earring's map is not in the correct place and this is why it's showing up skin colored. The small orange parts of the map that I've indicated below need to be moved up so they lie over a silver part in the upper right corner. Anything that is mapped over an area of transparency will take on the color of skin and anything that lies over the colored area in the corner will take on the color of whatever is on the image underneath it.

Hello orangemittens! thanks for your very quick reply and for taking the time to look at my file. Now that you explains it seems very easy. I just recheck my file regarding your instructions, and yes there as these two leftovers on my UV 0 map. I don't how it happened. Thanks for your explanation now I can move on to do other meshing.

Hi. I've been trying to make some glasses for my sim using a different 3D program than Blender. I've imported the mesh, and tried to follow this tutorial for the rest of the stuff I needed for my accessory to work. It doesn't show in the game. I've run into some Blender errors too on the way, so maybe that might be the cause, but the item does show in S4S just fine. I've been guessing how to proceed half of the time, so I probably messed up some steps. Do you have any advice on how to proceed when importing a new mesh? I'm thinking of starting over, but I don't want to do all the work in Blender. I find it mind numbing.

If you're making the item using another 3D editor you probably are going to need to transfer weights for it once you get it into Blender. If it isn't showing in the game that is often because the weights aren't correct and it's hovering over the Sim out of sight. Brujah's tutorial that goes over how to transfer weights uses glasses as the example item. I think it might help you
