Whoops, I left this open to reply to and it got buried! Sorry for the wait.
My theory was the same as Menaceman's, that it's an animation reference issue, and that yes, it should still work but be replaced by the original soccer when playing. However, I just replaced the ASM's reference with the black swatch's key and it still won't work. So something else in the system is going wrong. I'll ask a friend who works with animations and see if he knows what's up.

Again, super sorry for the wait. This thread completely slipped my mind again. (It seems to be just this thread and one other request, lol). So I asked my friend, he checked, turns out that the error is in the interaction tuning. Apparently, and hopefully I explain this right, each balls object definition is being checked/tested for, then continues to another interaction that tests a given moodlet to the sims. Basically each ball has it's own moodlet, and because recolors are custom ones they don't get a moodlet, hence the interaction not really running. For some reason EA never made a fallback so any recolors are not going to work. If you know how to mod/want to mod it, you can override the tuning and add in your recolor object definitions to get them to work again. Or possibly inject into the tuning.
