Right now we're waiting to get the add swatch feature stabilized so people aren't running into items that won't allow them to add swatches. We couldn't test all the objects in the Fullbuild in alpha and still get this out in a timely fashion so that will happen in beta. Once that's done then it will be time to figure out what the best UI is going to be for everyone's workflow. How it is right now isn't set in stone at all. Personally I don't want the workflow for anything in Studio to feel like a workaround. There's a way to lay this out that will work for most people in a fashion that won't feel like a workaround. That's where Joy is headed next once the feature itself is stabilized. Determining how best to get there is going to require the Studio community's input almost without doubt.

Hi everyone -- sorry to be a bother, but I'm confused! I want to add extra recolors to a CC item such that they show up as extra swatches rather than a new item.
Let's say I want to add more bedding for the frameless Sophia bed (because I do). I'm a little confused about what my options are now that we have swatches. Can I create an item that won't overwrite the original colors of the bed, but won't make a second bed show up in the menu either? I'd like to just add swatches to the original if possible, since people will likely have that in their game already.

Hi okra, welcome to Studio forums. For objects if you want to add swatches to a pre-existing custom item you would need to clone that item as a custom content default override. The item you shared would then be a clone of the original that contained the entire mesh. If someone else did the same thing and a player put both of the overrides into the Mods folder at once only one set of new recolors would show up at any given time. This is due to the way that EA has .packages constructed for Sims 4 and, at this time, there is no way around the issue. I think you're best off cloning the Sophia mattress as custom content and replacing all the swatches with your new recolors. If you do it that way you can name your recolor set your own unique name that matches your set and you can give it your own description too.

Thanks for answering so promptly! If that's the case, now I understand why everyone on Tumblr bundles together those 40 beddings I didn't really want with the five that I did. I am also finding a lot of weird behaviors when I import files that aren't DDS. I've switched back to DDS for now because everything I imported in PNG or JPG seemed to be sized incorrectly (too large). I'm not sure whether this is a bug or if I'm just doing something wrong. Should I create a thread in the 'creation help' forum? Is that the best place for general Studio-specific help?

Yes...the best place to post about that would be creator help. Please feel welcome to create a thread and someone will help

Has anyone tested if there is a max number of swatches Allowed? I have a lot of sims 2 objects that used a plethora of materials, as I had set up repository files for wood, fabric, leather, etc and just used my libraries. Now I feel like I am so limited.

I added 35 to the example vase I made when testing and Brujah added 76 swatches to an item he tested. Both worked in the game. I don't know of anyone who has added more but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has bumped into a swatch ceiling.

I'm not sure what you mean by repository file...different people seem to use that term differently. If you mean have one object reference the images from another I wrote a tutorial showing how to do that using Studio and it's in the tut section if that will help

empathlunabella, if you want all the swatches you can easily get them by cloning as a Selective clone instead of a standalone recolor or new mesh. Once you've chosen the item you want a box will pop up. Fill it out with a check in each box like this: How do I get the pop up box to come up for me, I select the object but the pop up box doesn't come up? I am using the latest version of Joy by the way (2.5.1.0)

You have to pick Selective Clone under the object button on the first page.
