Hey there. This is my first time trying to create a bump map for cc, however I'm getting an odd issue that I don't understand why it's happening. Their is an odd, turquoise sheen on the back of the item, and it only covers the upper back portion. I followed this tutorial step for step, even ending up using a plugin to convert the PSD to DDS when the PNG of the normal wasn't working either. I'm very frustrated because I don't know what else to do, please help me! Here's the current broken file. And here's an image of what I'm getting in CAS.I can attach just the normal map if that makes anything easier, dds or png format.

1. Normal map must be saved in .dds format. When you save in .png it gets saved incorrectly. 2. This happens when normal map is missing alpha channel after saving. Check my post here. 3. Your NM is incorrect size, it suppose to be 1024x1024. You need to crop it down. If you use photoshop it is Image -> Canvas size and chose following settings.

Thank you, but I'm still having this issue. I scaled the image down along with the canvas size, and it's not covering the area of the item. Sorry if the one attached to the file wasn't in dds format, but trying that (and converting it as that file type from the Nividia plug-in for PS) is yielding the same results. Here's the new file that should be correct but isn't working. And I'm not missing the alpha channel, either. At least I really don't think so? If I am I can't wrap my head around what I'm doing wrong, each channel is right there, green copied to red and blue while red is copied to alpha as instructed.

Read my instructions in a linked post again. Reopen saved DDS file to add missing channel. It doesn't matter if you see an alpha channel in original file that is still open. It gets lost when you save the file. I wrote about it in the linked post.

Now I've got the alpha channel in the dds file, re imported it, everything. Still has the same issue - even now that the alpha channel is in the dds file. I've tried looking at more tutorials and I feel as if I'm even more lost lo. Sorry if you're frustrated with me, but I appreciate the help a lot

By the way, this file was made using Nividia's plugin for dds conversion for photoshop. I've tried the Intel one but it doesn't work either (both the latest for ps 2020). This is just for reference's sake, because I hadn't mentioned it earlier and I think it's the only relevant technical aspect I've left out mentioning beforehand.

This NM file is completely blank. When I asked to share the file I meant .package to see what exported .dds looks like. But if you import the file that you just shared then it won't work for sure. It doesn't really matter what plugin do you use for saving .dds, they all will do more or less the same job quality wise. The last map is definitely incorrect, you need to redo the file again until it looks light gray when it is imported in Studio. It took me a while to pinpoint the issue a while ago, and it didn't work for me from the first attempt either. Just try till you succeed. If your saved .dds looks dark gray when you import in studio, open that file and add alpha channel again, and keep that alpha channel in a separate file just in case if you need to copy it again.

Hi The NM is almost there, though. Now you have an alpha channel You just have to go back to your normal map and: - copy the RED channel into the alpha channel
- click on red only - the layer should appears grey-
- ctrl+A (select all)
- ctrl+c (copy)
- click on alpha only
- ctrl+v (paste)
- then copy the green channel into the red and blue channel. In photoshop, it should look like this. Also, make sure to flatten your image before saving in dds so it includes the alpha channel (right click on the layer in photoshop > flatten image).
