You have me beat with about 20 or so years
Undo is still Ctrl+Z like in most other programs, but it's a slightly more annoying action because it's difficult to undo actions if you've switched "workplace" (edit mode to object mode to UV mode, for instance - if you've switched, undo suddenly isn't as possible). Within each mode, there also seems to be a set limit to how many times you can undo an action. So be sure to save often enough, and save versions here and there if you make big changes you can't easily undo. That's what I do, anyway.
Milkshape has the combined problem of being simple enough to understand, but also too simple to get anything useful done in it. Meshing and UVmapping from scratch is a pain... But it's fine for editing meshes and for TS2 and TS3 editing. I prefer other programs for making meshes and UVmapping.
TS2 is far from old - vanilla it's rather plain-looking, yes - but there has been a wave of people going back and pretty much reshaping it with CC the past few years, so if you know where to get your CC you can pretty much get a whole new game out of it. Even babies and pets are pretty awesome by now, pets having had a lot of small little "repairs" especially to puppies/kittens, and also with added accessories, and babies are as close to repaired as they probably will get with a full wardrobe, hairs, accessories, etc. (Personally I've found I really like baby photography in TS2 - those little ones are really cute when they're not limited to diapers and bald heads, and they're even poseable with poseboxes), and neighborhoods can look quite decent too - For instance, Criquette's Feverfew at Tumblr is AMAZING! criquette-was-here.tumblr.com/tagged/feverfew (and her page also happens to be a good source of TS2 neighborhood CC). If you miss any of the items or clothes, I think 50% of stuff from TS3 and TS4 already have been converted to TS2. If you have access to TS2, the game could be worth a try. There are probably some who still play TS2 vanilla, but they don't know what they're missing.
Honestly, the main reason I've been playing TS4 lately is because I've been having some laptop issues (Win10/Nvidia wasn't fond of TS2 on my new laptop, had to sort it out, but looks to maybe be fine now), and I've been (sort of) procrastinating having to fix up a neighborhood I need for a TS2 story I'm doing (well, now I am - wasn't so easy to get anything done with a game that didn't work, and it took a lot of time figuring out what the bug was). Probably should get a move on with that one (I have been writing, though)...
