Hello! I use 3DSMAX to make my things most of the time. There when I use the subdivide modifier on planes the plane is made smooth but its ends not, which is ideal for alpha hair making. But when I try to do the same thing on Blender I got the plane totally smoothed, including its ends. How do I prevent blender from behaving like this?

Hi. Switch prom Catmull-Clark to Simple. If that is not what you want, crease the edge with Shift E

"Simple" doesn't smooth the mesh at all, only subdivide it (literally). Edge crease won't work with the mesh ends but works with the rest of the shape. Even if it works wouldn't be a practical solution since I would have to do this manually in all planes. Any other possible solutions?

In object mode, select your mesh and in the left column, in the Tools tab, click "smooth". To keep certain edges sharp, you can either use a edge split modifier + angle, or you can manually select them in edit mode > meft column > Shading uvs > apply sharp on edges or faces, etc.

Hello, Syboulette I'm not referring to shading, but the mesh shape itself Here's an image of my problem: www.mediafire.com/view/b050zniyn0cwvxe/Untitled.png/fileBlender smooth modifier changes the shape of the a plane's ends. I want something to do something to prevent it from doing that.

You can duplicate the edge by extruding it or insert an additional edge loop (CTRL+E) near the end of the plane, which should keep the edge from getting smoothed.
