I'm a sucker for pretty braids and would like to have this older alpha hair (well, an EA-colored recolor that I'm going to download when SFS is behaving again) in my game: www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/details/category/sims4-hair-hairstyles-female/title/wings-oe0316/id/1408211/but the original is pretty borked and I've no reason to think the recolor, which is nearly as old, won't have the same problem, plus I might run into the issue again and I'd like to know what to do. This is what's happening: I have seen comments indicating that other people were getting the "shiny" error with this hair, and that people here and elsewhere were having a variety of issues with Wings hairs in general, but this is... not the same as the issues other people have reported, and I've tried messing with the normal and specular textures of one of the swatches without much luck. Anybody got anything for me?

Hi. The mesh has no shadow, specular and normal maps. They are removed from the file in a way that disrupted it. Replace them with these

Awesome. Do I need to do that manually on each swatch, or is there a way to do it across the board? (Also, for the specular, do I need to do something with the files that have mask in the name also?)

No, all swatches share the same maps for the exception of the diffuse one. You just import the specular and the mask is imported on its own

That worked perfectly! Thank you; now I know what to do if I encounter it again (I probably will, my appetite for alpha hair on the whole isn't that high but my appetite for certain styles is bottomless) and I have a good set of tools to use.

So, SFS came back up, I found one of the recolors I was looking for, slapped those maps on it, loaded up the game with both fixed files... and the recolor can't find the mesh. Am I stuck exporting 18 textures, importing 18 textures, and making sure every swatch thumbnail color is correct for the game to understand the hair is using the EA palette, or is there some way I can change a line or two in the warehouse tab to make sure it can find the mesh (and then 'embed externally referenced resources' and get rid of the original)?

Have you tried clicking on embed externally referenced resources regardless? Nothing happened? The meshes and textures did not appear in the Warehouse? If not, then it is unlikely that you can make them do that by changing something
You should be able to export everything with the code "package.export:" Press Shift Ctrl C, then enter this. If it wont help, enter "Help" instead, there are some more options about exporting. There is an option to find the resources, but i'm not sure if this will help

Yeah, I dropped the mesh into S4S's Mods folder and tried to embed anyway, but nothing remotely useful happened. I was hoping maybe there was some line in the Warehouse tab with a hexadecimal string I could check and perhaps change.
Is that command line option meant to save me time by exporting all 18 textures at once, or meant to be an alternate option for exporting the mesh so I can try importing it again, or something else entirely?

This command should just exports everything. Textures, meshes

Oh, yeah, that part I understood. I just wasn't sure what you were suggesting I do with the results. I'll have a look at the resource-finding part for sure, though.

Exporting the whole package of the recolor failed because the CAS Part items in Warehouse are all named things like simsaresavage_WINGS_Newsea_Newsea_Newsea_Juice_Juice_Juice_Juice_Anto_S4Hair_Aftershock_201511192202453842_201604022030391539_201604042123450923_201604172007294074_201606012246395835_201606282232155124_201607172248479152_201608071505014551_201803151750544874_201803182140050804 and Windows rightly barfs all over itself trying to name a file that.
Exporting the whole package of the file that contains the mesh gave me a directory full of files that all have extensions that match the name of the Warehouse items, but when I deleted the ones I obviously didn't want to keep (the texture images, CAS parts (I assume), and thumbnails) and imported the rest (geometry and region map) with package.import, the filesize got bigger but it didn't change anything in S4S or CAS. (I suspected it would not, since I found a thread that, while very old, cautioned someone against trying to add swatches in Warehouse because they wouldn't be connected to anything else.)
Time to export the textures one by one. It probably makes more sense to build a new recolor that successfully refers to the separate original mesh anyway, since I already knew that the mesh creator's TOU doesn't allow sharing a recolor that includes it, but I checked on the person who did the recolor, and while I can't find any currently active social media (just three different deleted Tumblr usernames), the TOU in the reblogs of their Tumblr posts is basically just 'don't make money off it or claim you made it yourself', so if I make a normal recolor I can share it. (And advise people to remove all the swatches from the mesh or at least turn off 'allow for random' because of course it's set to allow for random.)

Replace them with these Hey so I know this is an old thread, sorry if this isn't the best way to ask this question. But I'm trying to fix this same hair for my own personal use and was wondering if you could share an updated version of these map files so that I could repair it? Thanks!
