This discussion has been so timely and helpful to me! Just one question... How exactly did you renumber the PrototypeId. I know where this resource is to change it, I just don't know how to generate a new number for this field. Thank you so much for everyone's help and knowledge on this complicated subject!! <3 Trying using option 2 of this tutorial.

MizoreYukii, Thank you so much! I wasn't sure if I could just use the Hash Generator in S4S to create a brand new number, or if the PrototypeId had to be a specific instance referenced elsewhere. Your tutorial is very clear.

Thank you so much for everyone's help and knowledge on this complicated subject!! <3 In S4S, go to the menu Tools > Hash Generator, then write something that will correspond and generate a number, like Name:object:prototypeId, and use the FNV64 number to replace the instance number [edit: I didn't see the second page :D well there you go then :p ]

I'm so excited! I managed to clone a ladder and add a new mesh and textures to it! changing the prototype id to the default ladder object file was key! I've been working on this and stairs since before Christmas and just finished both; figuring out how to import new meshes and copying all the newly hashed instances took for.ever. I made a mesh of a more rugged 'standard' wooden ladder without the top handle part that sticks up. I even made an invisible swatch so the ladder can be hidden other objects without a footprint (like a spiral staircase ;-) ). I'm brand new to creating cc so I don't know how to share images or files with you guys!
The game file cruiser and your advice was indispensable! Thank you!!!!!

Took me forever too I also had bug sometimes like "ladder have invalid object" and had to restart everything for the beginning. Well done on creating yours aswell

Yes!!! Having restarted my ladder over twice, I realized the invalid game object was the ObjectCat and ObjectDef needing to begin with an 8 and not a 0. I wrestled with trying to get the game generated thumbnails to show up; the game kept generating blank thumbnails (?), so I ended up making cc thumbnails by hand using the blender render engine. Did you ever get your ladders to show up as independent objects or are they still overrides? Here is a screen shot of my ladder (if I managed to do this correctly? I can clone a ladder, but can't figure out a free image hosting service - LOL - Well, I'm in my late 50s so I can blame it on being a Boomer!) Edit... the image isn't showing up? here is the url for it: imgur.com/a/DJVOHQZMOD EDIT: Fixed image

Well done on figuring out why the invalid object, it's good to know for the future ! And yes, they are fully independant and not overiding anything. About the thumbnail, I added a cutout info ressource and changed manually the coordinates using a similar sized objects and linked the model 3 instance number to have it focus on the top ladder, it worked wonderfully

The cutout info table... that makes so much sense to me now. When I was looking through the game file cruiser, I couldn't understand why ladders had no cutout info with the same instance as the model, while stairs *do. Why is that?! For the game to be able to generate the thumbnails based on the top of the ladder model, I thought, shouldn't this cutout info resource file already exist somewhere (maybe with another instance?). I have no idea *how to create a cutout info resource based on an object, so that is something I definitely need to learn. It was really time consuming (and frustrating) having to create the silly thumbnails in blender. (Thank you to the Admin for fixing the image reference in my last post!)

For the coordinates, you can check this post for more info sims4studio.com/thread/21685/off-centred-thumbnailI noticed that the instance was the same than the model but maybe for those ladders it was an independant one and that's the reason we couldn't find it.
