I'm curious, is there any information out there behind the modeling process of hair for the Sims 4? I know there was some information released about the process behind creating the Laundry Day hairs, but that was more about finishing up the concept art before the hairs were modeled. I'm just curious if they use curves or a different method - or, more specifically, I'm wondering if I could create something in a similar style to the official hairs using curves in blender, or if a different method would be better for creating hairs from scratch.

Hi. Clay hairs like this are made this way: sculpted first, a bit of painting/ao is done, retopologized, the retopologized version uv unwrapped, hair material is overlayed (like, hair strands), some more painting is done. Yes, you can make maxis match hair with curves, there is just a limit to how "maxis" it will end up looking just with curves. Maxis hair is retopologized manually to be as low poly as possible while retaining all the necessary details and painted manually to look complex. Like, each strand has a unique texture meant specifically for the place it takes in 3d.
I would not recommend you to model maxis hair from scratch, instead try combining existing ones and add a bit of a twist with curves
