Hey there! I just made another post, but since this is a totally different subject, I wanted to make a separate thread for it. Hope it's ok! I'm a completely new content creator. I'm using sims 4 studio to make recolors of stuff exclusively for my own personal use, like making new artwork for the walls and adding color swatches to items. My question is about copyright; anybody have any idea how "careful" I have to be? I have OCD, and it won't let me stop worrying that I'm doing something wrong. What if I added brand logos onto clothes or copy images from the internet (like maybe album covers, film posters) onto game posters? I know you guys aren't lawyers, but just any kind of reassurance about what I can and can't do would be appreciated <3 As I said, I won't be releasing the CC anywhere, only using it for my own game. Hope you're all having a nice evening!

Hi. Copyright laws exist for re-distribution/commercial usage. If you’re modifying other people’s content for personal use, you can do whatever you want. If you want to share your modified/repurposed content with others, you need permission. The creators usually specify if they allow people to edit (and share) their content
As for brands, it depends. Using logos or brand names without permission is the copyright violation but generally it is not punishable. The only brand I know that takes down everything used without permission is Disney. You can use fashion brand names or logos with no fear, they only benefit from it. However, some sim files sharing websites (like tsr) do not allow people to use brand names and logos.
As for other people’s images, if the creator does not allow to use it, don’t use it.
All of that said, if you will violate copyright laws, the owner will send you a DMCA takedown. They will simply ask you to remove your item from the internet. If you will not comply, they can sue.
In short: If your content is free, you can overlook copyright laws if the owner is a company. It is very unlikely they will do anything about it, and if they will, it will just be a DMCA takedown. If the owner is a person, do not use their content without permission. If your content will be behind a paywall, do not use anyone else’s content.
