Hello, I hope it's alright to post my question here. I've searched the forum for a solution and didn't find anything that would help with my problem. I'm taking on the painful task of recoloring the base game hair in unnatural colors and I've run into a problem. As you can see, the side of the hair has that horrible edge around the sideburn...baby hair?...area. I don't know how to get rid of it. The majority of the BG hair doesn't do this. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with how to fix it. Or some advice. Again, sorry if this is overstepping.

I can't see the image you added. Maybe post the link itself?

Hmmm. I don't have a lot of experience with hair, but I mess with it and see if I can figure it out. I'm not sure from the shot you posted which hair it is. (I wish CAS had names you could see like bb items do)

(I wish CAS had names you could see like bb items do) It's the dirty blonde Medium Straight Parted from the base game. Oh. How I colored it was with NoodlesCC Sorbet Remix actions. I should have told y'all that. Sorry. Having names to the hair would be helpful in game...Maybe I can work on that too.

It's the edge of the hair, I have always had problems with this. I wish I could help more. You could try modify the edges of a selection or select by color (the white bit on the edge) and try to fix it that way. I would love to know how other people do it myself.

I downloaded the Sorbet actions, and got the same problem. Unfortunately I couldn't manage to get a good result using Noodle's actions. What I managed to do was get a swatch that looks a lot like the Sorbet palette, and doesn't have the same issues with the hairline. The way that the Sorbet action works, is it desaturates the image, then adds layers of solid color on top that blends into the B&W version. It's supposed to only apply the color to the places where the hair is drawn in, that way only the hair changes color, and not the rest of the person. When I tried running the actions I downloaded from Noodles, I ran into a problem when the action tried to select sections of the image. (I'm not sure if that's because my settings didn't match Sorbet's, or different versions of PS or what.) So instead of only applying the pink to the hair, it applied the pink everywhere. I could manually select most of the hair sections, but it gets really wonky when there's a soft edge like there is on the hairline. There might be a way to set up Photoshop so that the settings match Noodle's, and have the action remove the extra pink from the image, but I'm not sure how to set it up. What I managed to do was get a similar result using a different method: 1. Image > Adjustments > Desaturate 2. Image > Adjustments > Color Balance Then adjust the color sliders around to add color. It defaults to adjusting the midtones, but you should also change the balance for shadows and highlights as well. (The toggle buttons are in the "Tone Balance" section. For Tutti Frutti, it was almost all red tones, with a tiny bit of adding yellow. The reason this works on the soft edges is because it only applies the affect to existing pixels. So areas that are blank, stay blank, and areas that are translucent, stay translucent. Applying the pink as a solid layer affects all areas of the image the same, regardless of how transparent they are. Here's what it looks like in S4S, and compared to the Sorbet version. I think it's a pretty close match for color, although it's higher contrast and shinier. To get a better match, I'd need to do some more fine-tuning, but it's do-able. I realize this is a lot more tedious than using the actions. Maybe someone else has a quicker way? Although if you end up with colors you like, you could save your own actions so they'd be quickly repeatable later.

I like that. Your recolor stands out more to me. I think you can also record your steps and make them into an action.

Oh my god!! You're amazing! Thank you for this!! I'll do this when I wake up tomorrow!!! Your version looks awesome!! Thank you for taking the time to do this for me, I really appreciate it!
As for the action being weird when played, it's because your starting layer isn't named 'background'. That's why it won't properly select the image.

UPDATE!!I played around with the color balance and used curves to adjust. I think it turned out pretty good. This took a few hours to do since I was playing around with settings in photoshop. I've found that gradient maps are also good to color hair with, but I just couldn't get the color anywhere close to the ones shown. I'll have to fiddle with gradient maps some more to see if I can just use those instead. Thank you again for your help!!!
