link package link blend link screenshots Hi, so I'm trying to make a traditional futon but have a problem with weights. Weight transfer doesn't really work so I manually painted weights using the original mesh as a model, but the result is still spiky and doesn't work. There aren't really any tutorials I have found so I'm asking in this thread. (The bed is supposed to be wide single bed and I haven't yet adjusted slots so the sleeping positions are still high when testing) I have made a similar bed before but didn't make new mesh for it except for the base mattress, I just edited and modified an EA to be a correct shape and size and thus I didn't need to do any weight assigning or painting.... )

Hi. You need to use different settings for weight transfer. Disable vertex selection masking for painting first
Also, since your mesh dramatically differs from any maxis one, it would be best to rig it manually

- find a reference that matches yours as closely as possible, clone, export, append in the scene with your item; - adjust the reference to match yours better in Edit mode; - select the reference, Shift-select your bed, switch to Weight paint, Transfer weights with the following settings, use Clean with All groups, then Limit total with 4; For now you can only do Clean with All groups and Limit total with 4, then check how the mesh animates in-game. If there are problems, you can try smoothing the weights with Smooth tool

I edited this mesh for weight transfer (it's also my mesh, I made it like half a year ago and it's working like intended) but the transfer still doesn't work. The groups get transferred, sure, but only transformbone is actually making a difference in the new mesh. I have followed your instruction/s, but still. Here is the blendd.

Transformbone was the only transferred meshgroup, you did not change Source layers Selection from Active to By name. The settings must be exactly like in the screenshot.
also, the shared blend file has .blend1 extension. This is a backup that s4s cannot import, make sure you are not importing it in s4s

Hi, sorry for the late reply. The weight groups are now getting transferred correctly however weights don't. I don't know what to do anymore.

You're doing everything just like in the pic and the weights still do not transfer? ( as in, when you select one vertex, you can see that it is not rigged as it should be?) (like in the first frame) Do you have blender 2.76? I remember one of the versions of 2.76 having a bug related to weight transfer. If yes, try the newer version (2.78-2.79 or the latest, 3.3.1)

Yeah, I'm using 2.76. That might be causing it. I will try another version, then!

Update: the issue seemed to be with the blender version 2.76. I installed 2.79(a) and it transfers weights! Thank you mauvemorn for patience and instructions.
