Hi all,
I've played sims for years and years but recently I've been messing around on Blender, S4S, and Zerbu's Mod Constructor. Very early days, but I started making a few small things for my game, and recently I've been testing out making traits. But there's a mod I've wanted to make for absolutely ages and I think I might try and give it a go!
I've always thought the gifting in the game was awful...I can gift someone a mushroom but not a bracelet? Or the same generic buffs from a gifts. Gifts don't feel very personal, sims don't have to go to a shop to buy a gift and if they buy online it's the same old stuff for every birthday or Christmas. I want to change this.
Today I decided to put the idea down on paper so I thought I would post it for tips/feedback/ideas or even better, someone who may know what I need to be researching (or where to start!) to make this type of mod. Please see below for the basics of the idea!
Thanks in advance!
MORE PERSONAL GIFT GIVING
Romantic Gifts
Give necklaces, rings, bracelets and watches as a gift. Need ‘romance’ level to be able to give these gifts romantically. Different levels of cost, some are cheap, give small buffs, others are expensive and give big buffs.
Heartfelt Gifts
These gifts are family gifts, photos, jewellery as above, certain objects, beauty products, watches etc.
Kids gifts
Birthday and Christmas present gifts, such as handmade clothes, games, electronics. Money. And gifts to give their friends: Friendship bracelets, candy necklaces. Paintings/Drawings
Brings in new interactions!
“Talk about ideal gift” “Chat about gift ideas” “Brag about recent gift” “Write list to Santa”
“Ask what gift they’d like” “Complain about gift” “Thank for gift” “Gossip about gift”
When jewellery is gifted, the sim is gifted a physical item, but then the jewellery can be added in CAS to match the item.
New buffs!
Bad buffs – e.g “Hate this gift!” “What is that?!” “Snooooooze!” “This gift is too expensive!” “Cheap cheap cheap” – these bad buffs can be random, or can be specific to traits. Traits such as High Maintenance will be happy when receiving an expensive gift. Traits such as “Frugal” will get a bad buff when the gift is expensive. ‘Freegans’ hate gifts of any kind as they find them wasteful. “Jealous’ sims can get jealous when they see someone has received a nice gift nearby.
Possible traits to give bad buffs – Gloomy, Freegan, High Maintenance, Non-Committal (specifically with romantic gifts). Socially Awkward.
Good buffs – e.g “Wow, I’m speechless!” “For me?!” “I’m so lucky!”
Traits that may give good buffs are “Good” “Romantic” (specifically for romantic gifts) “Maker” and Frugal sims will appreciate hand made gifts more than expensive gifts. Materialistic sims will love expensive gifts but hate cheap ones. ‘Recycle Discipline’ will prefer less expensive gifts and handmade gifts. Cheerful sims will enjoy any type of gift.
Family – Oriented sims will enjoy handmade gifts from their kids most of all. When giving a friendship bracelet to friends, kids can get buffs too. “Bestie!” etc.
All jewellery will be made as an object, but also as a physical accessory that can be added to sims in CAS.
Potential expansion for the mod:
Craftables
Custom craftables can be added for your sims to make, e.g new knitting patterns for different ages, new woodworks for ornament gifts, a kids creative bench where they can craft pasta jewellery, or friendship bracelets, or candy necklaces etc.
Custom Traits
“Expensive taste” Trait
“Cheap and cheerful” Trait
"The Giver" - loves shopping and buying gifts for people
"Scrooge" hates the whole idea of gift giving and the consumerism behind it!
Etc. Traits based off giving and receiving gifts and the level of gifts sims appreciate.
Shops
Specific shops where your sims can go to buy custom gifts. Jewellery stores both expensive and cheap, can be different depending on where you go e.g Willow Creek for more antique jewellery and San Myshuno for expensive diamonds. Different jewellery type in Mount Komorebi, Sulani etc.
Kids stores, crafting stores where you can buy things to make your gifts. Stores where you can go to make your gift e.g candlemaker stores. Cake stores and flower stores too.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Also if someone could point me to where I should start that would be great? I figure my first port of call is testing out gifting and how to set custom objects to be gifted.
Thanks in advance!
