I'm trying desperately to clone the "Fence for Window Shopping" from Get to Work because I like to use it as a threshold, but it has no business costing §66 per length. I just want to copy it exactly as it is, with all 24 or 27 or whatever swatches, and reduce the price. So far, I've managed to get all of the resources in the same file (I think: multiple models, high and med LOD; all of the diffuse textures; and a bunch of other stuff that I have no idea of its purpose, but it came with when I used TSRW to clone it, so I'm not even gonna try messing with it).
I tried to reverse engineer an existing CC fence to see if I could figure it out, but I can't seem to find where it links the Fence resource to the DST Image instance, unless maybe it links to something *else* that references the DST image, I have no clue. Am I way off the mark here? Clearly it's possible, I just really don't know what I'm doing.
I also changed the SimoleonPrice value in the Fence resource from 66 to 15, but when I tested it in game, it still showed and charged §66, so there's probably something else I have to change to make that work, but I can't find that either. Please help. My bad, that worked, I think I just edited the wrong file or didn't hit save or something.
Edit:I'd happily upload the file, but I don't seem to be able to find where to do that. Maybe I'm missing a button, or it's just not enabled for me, I don't know. Never mind, I found it! Have at it. Please let me know if there's any glaringly obvious mistakes I'm making.
Edit again: Double never mind, it refuses to post the embed. Here's the link I guess.
More edits: After looking at a functioning package, it occurred to me that I probably needed a Fence resource for each swatch? So I used the File Cruiser to find the Fence resources for the existing Fence for Window Shopping and added them to the package file. It kind of worked?? They all show up now, but they show up as individual items in the catalog (and one of them doesn't work right for some reason, it's missing the endcaps. I'll try re-adding it and see if that fixes it). So while this is sloppy and ugly, I guess it's technically functional, though I would really prefer to have them all in the same catalog entry as swatches and not standalone "recolors." I have NO clue where the texture files for these are saved, because I'm almost certain they're just coming along with the Fence resource and not linking to the DST images in the package, but I guess if they work, I don't really care.
Updated file.
Edit #4?? (I've lost count): I got it 90% functional and that's all I can ask for. I foolishly edited the instances of each Fence resource after adding them the first time under the (baseless) assumption they would fall under the original catalog entry for "Fence for Window Shopping," which is what made them all show up as unique entries (and probably why that one was broken, I think I edited the wrong field without noticing). After re-adding all of the Fence resources from the original file via the Game File Cruiser, I edited the price for each one to §15, which works as expected in game, and everything showed up correctly.
I did edit all of the string tables with the description in them to have a cute little custom description and title, but even though I changed all of them, they all still show the "Fence for Window Shopping" title and description. I looked through the Fence resources (as well as the Model and Model LOD resources for good measure) to the best of my ability, but couldn't find a secondary slot for the description. I can only imagine it still references the EA fence description somewhere in there, but I couldn't find a variable name or Instance that implied the description at a glance (I may have just missed it, I didn't look super hard).
So as of now, that's the only thing I'm unhappy with. But it's now cloned as a standalone file and costs §15 instead of §66, so frankly, I'm content. Here's the file if anyone wants to download it, and/or look around and see if you can find what I missed in regards to the Description/Title strings.
Edit ten-thousand: It looks like I've actually just managed to override the original fence (although I could have sworn on my last test, the original fence was still there). I'm okay with this, but it's worth noting for anyone interested in downloading it, this will just override the Fence for Window Shopping and make it cost §15. That's it, that's the only difference. This was such an absurdly complicated, roundabout endeavor just to change the cost of this fence. I'm over it
