Hello! I used to play the Sims 3 a ton years ago. I’m having a knee operation and will be out of commission for 6-8 weeks and was thinking of getting into The Sims 4 to pass the time. My question is, with so many expansion packs and content, do I have to purchase each pack after the base game? That seems very expensive! nox.tips/ xender.vip/Also, any recommendations on the best expansion packs? I’ve don’t some YouTube research on which look the most interesting or add the most to the game. Thanks so much for any info and help!

You can purchase what you want and what interests you. Sims 4 is as far as I've read, not quite as fulfilling as Sims 3 was for those who played it... So it may seem a bit bland for you. There is not many DLC that is dependent on each other. You can try the base game for free now, so maybe that can give you an idea if you want to plunk down the cash for more of it.
It depends on your interests as to what to buy. My favorites are GTW (active careers), Island Living (mermaids), Cats and Dogs, Seasons, Vampires and Werewolves and that's what I use primarily. The rest I do have because I like the CAS items or build items. I am a primary story teller so I don't play like normal all that often.
