I was wondering if there is a way to edit a mesh and make the file use textures from another package. I made a plant object and decided to add some variation with a new mesh. I cloned my first package to add a new mesh, and for some reason it only has one of the textures. Not that this is a problem, I can put the other textures back in, but I thought it'd be a good thing to save some space if they're both using the texture data from just one file. Is this doable?

Use a selective clone instead of a standalone 3D mesh. Do not put a check mark in the textures box. This will give you a full clone excepting textures. If you then click renumber it will make it so your new item will have all the resources in the .package, and they will be unique and editable, except the textures which it will be referencing from the original. This will make it so the new one requires the original to be in the Mods folder to work because it has no textures of its own. The map it uses must fit with the original texture also.

Cool! Thank you, orangemittens! I wish the game would let us select mesh options like it does the textures for merged packages. I have a million thumbnails in the buy catalog already. I wonder if EA ever comes up with some sort of collections system...

You're welcome. I wish that too. Unfortunately unless EA overhauls their design tool system there is no way around the current limitations.
