I don't know if you'll be able to help me, but I've been trying to do recolors of children hairs for my game (adding swatches to existing EA hairs). I tried asking for help on this in the creator help section, but it's been a few days and I haven't gotten a response.
When I make recolors of a hair for children, the game always switches them and defaults them to one of the standard EA colors. I played around a lot trying to figure out a way around it with no luck. I don't have issues with my kids hair changing colors if they're already set to EA colors, only if I try and use custom colors. Do you know if this an issue with sims4studio or is this a coding problem within the game itself? I know others who have this issue as well when they make recolors for kids hair and while I'd really like my kids to have different hair color options too, I don't want to go through the work of making theirs if I can't even use them.

Hi princesspearly, welcome to Studio forums. If you're a bit more specific about where you're running into questions, I can try to help you

I'm running into a problem with my character portraits. So, I downloaded some Disney mods but I didn't like the hair color they gave to Anna from Frozen. It was blonde instead of red. I followed your great guide here to try to add a new color swatch to the hairs. I used Gimp for my editing. What I did was: exporting the existing dds, recoloring the dds and exporting that as a new, separate file. Then doing exactly as your guide said and pasting the recolored images as a new layer over the original image. First time through the process I forgot to generate mip maps or something (and I also just recolored the images instead of adding new layers) and it didn't come out right, so I started over. Now it works great in both CAS and in-game, except for the character portraits. I'm attaching three images under spoilers to show what's happening. (Edit: I'm just linking the pictures because I can't get them to show up large enough to see) The portraits look how the hair showed up when I screwed up the first time. Picture 1: postimg.org/image/5viax33px/Picture 2: postimg.org/image/rj797j445/Picture 3: postimg.org/image/xy6a47atx/The portraits are messed up on every single outfit I use them on, EXCEPT oddly the Work-Out outfit (shown in the third picture). It's using the exact same hair as the Everyday outfit (shown in the first). Do you have any idea what I've done wrong? What's going on?

Hi, I'm hoping for a little help with figuring out why my newly created .package is not showing up in CAS. I have the current version of Sims 4 Studio and my game is up to date. Also I do have all three expansion packs and all three game packs installed. I created two .packages from base game items, a hair and a facial hair, which I simply recolored. I did this as a standalone recolor and the .dds files were saved with the correct settings, mipmaps and all. Everything looks fine when viewed in Sims 4 Studio. I placed both in the mods folder and loaded up the game, both appeared as installed when the launcher loaded. I don't have any other cc installed so I expected they would show up fine in game. After loading up my saved game and taking my sim back into CAS via testingcheats I was surprised to find that the facial hair shows up perfectly but the hair is nowhere to be found. If I sort by category it says there is no custom content hair installed. I went back out and double checked all the image settings etc, but couldn't find any obvious problems. I'm totally stumped so any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi linriel, sorry for the late reply. If you post the problem .package I can take a look at it.

No worries about the late reply, I only just remembered to check again for a reply oops. Thanks for taking a look at it, I really appreciate it! The Package File! Hopefully that link will do the trick, it's just a link to where I temporary uploaded it to my deviant art stash. ^^

What would happen if I saved it as a .png?

minecat10000 You can save the diffuse as .png or .dds. If you save as .png make sure that the texture only covers the hair area, the rest must be transparent. If you use .dds, you don't have to worry about the texture going outside the limits because it is controlled with the alpha channel.

when I import an existing package file, the only swatch that exists is black, even if the package file has multiple colors. regardless of this, I tried making a new swatch and replacing the package file with the original one, and it didn't even show up in CAS like it did before I tried editing it.

When I try to recolor a toddler hair, everything fine but How do I do that odd line that is at the hairline for the pigtails? If I do the main part pink, around the bottom it's black.

Just wanted to post an update: if anyone is using Gimp instead of Photoshop and ran into the problems/confusion I did, it's actually pretty simple with one small change from this guide.
For steps 11 and 12, ".dds DXT5 (Interpolated Alpha)" isn't an obvious option. Gimp has about 6 different DXT5 choices, but "Interpolated Alpha" isn't one of them. I tried Alpha Component DXT5 (the closest sounding one), but that caused all kinds of problems. Instead, when you're ready to Export As and change the extension to .dds, a pop-up boxes titled "Save As DDS" will... pop-up. You're going to want to choose the follow parameters: Compression: BC3/DXT5 Format: Default (greyed out--you can't select anything else) Save: Selected layer (also greyed out) Mipmaps: Generate mipmaps
Now, click the + to open the Advanced Options. Leave everything there to default and don't have any boxes checked EXCEPT "Use perceptual error metric".
And there you go! Solved all the problems/confusion I was having, and you can easily follow this guide using Gimp 2d editing software!

Okay, so I'm making my first recolour swatch for all ages. However, I'm having trouble with kids and toddlers as a need EA's default blue to make the recolour. I do have this mod for toddlers installed and this one for kids. Any advice?

This is so great, but I've got one more question: is it acceptable for cc hairs too? Cuz the one I downloaded had got a different png texture image, like, it's not ''full'', I think you understand. And after, should I paste one over the other in photoshop?
