Hi folks, I'm a total noob with all things Sims-creative and generally just download tons of CC. On that note, I am trying to tidy up the CC I have and in my previous greedy haste to download everything my piggy eyes saw I never included pictures of the CC - a mistake I have come to sorely regret. I have spent weeks trying to relocate every piece of CC I've downloaded and save a copy of the relevant photo so I can swap CC in and out of my game depending on the style I want to play at the time (there's just way too much to put it all in and keep it there). My problem is that some (quite a few) creators have left the community, removed their downloads (and photos) so you often run into web pages declaring that dreaded message of "webpage does not exist", "Tumblr found nothing here" and so forth. I then had the brainwave of trying to extract images (where possible) from looking at the package file in s4pe except I haven't got a clue how to do that and I can't find any significant s4pe tutorials. My next step was to learn how to recolour as that might help answer the question of s4pe image extraction, except I don't want to get sidetracked from indexing my CC so I wondered if anyone had a quick answer to this? If not, no worries - I don't have too much left to index so could just stick those items into my game, take photos and job done but learning to recolour would be a nice bonus :D

Hi niknaks, I don't recommend the use of s4pe for management of custom content as it is pretty inadequate for the task. Instead I suggest using Sims 4 Studio's custom content management feature. There is a tutorial to get you started HERE and if you run into any questions with it please feel welcome to post again in this thread or in the tutorial thread s4pe is really not the best tool for just about any purpose in Sims 4 anymore. It has very spotty updating for patches, a poor user interface, scant attention to improvement of existing features or addition of new features, minimal documentation on its use, and almost no user support to speak of. If you're interested in making recolors Studio has an excellent recolor feature for CAS, objects, walls, floors, roofs, and terrain paint. If you let me know what your interest is I can point you to excellent tutorials on the subject.

Absolutely brilliant OM, I am off to do some reading and wish I'd asked this question earlier - it would have saved me hours (hundreds of hours!) of time. And I will certainly get back on the recolours question - most likely something simple like recolours of EA clothing but I would love to learn how to convert TS2 stuff (clothing) to TS4. I have some gorgeous ballgowns in my TS2 game that I am dying to include in my TS4 game. :D
EDIT: Oh dear :'( I opened S4S (Joy) but it doesn't show me a 'My CC' tab beneath 'My Projects' as shown in your tutorial. This is probably because although I have TS4 installed in the customary place I have removed all CC from my game file (Documents/My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4) into a temporary folder for indexing and photo additions. I will add CC back bit-by-bit once I've finished indexing it and no doubt S4S will become an invaluable aid to me then. Back to internet searching :D

The tutorial states what version of Studio you need and you should grab the newest version that is Sugar. It's always a good idea to read the What You Need section before proceeding with a tutorial.

Haha! I should've checked the 'Read what you need' section like you said OM Real life got real busy so I had to put it all on hold and haven't looked at my Sims stuff since January!! Now I've just updated TS4 via Origin and about to start updating Tools and Mods, then I'll have another go at sorting my CC out properly - I've probably got updates to do there too Can I call on your wisdom again OM...if I come unstuck?
